We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Valley Topological Phases in Bilayer Sonic Crystals [PDF]
Recently, the topological physics in artificial crystals for classical waves has become an emerging research area. In this Letter, we propose a unique bilayer design of sonic crystals that are constructed by two layers of coupled hexagonal array of triangular scatterers.

Evanescent waves and deaf bands in sonic crystals
The properties of sonic crystals (SC) are theoretically investigated in this work by solving the inverse problem k(ω) using the extended plane wave expansion (EPWE).

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

We report the first β‐glucosidase with demonstrated hydrolytic activity on an N‐linked glycopyranoside. The enzyme, native to maize, was biochemically characterised for this novel reaction, and structural modelling of the enzyme–substrate complex revealed several clues to the underlying reduced catalytic rate relative to its native O‐glycopyranoside ...

In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Symmetry‐Guided Multifunctional Acoustic System Based on Mechanically Actuated Sonic Crystals
This study presents the design, simulation, and experimental validation of amultifunctional acoustic metamaterial based on rotationally engineered sonic crystals.By tuning cylinder orientations, controllable band gaps and six distinct functionalities—including switching, topological insulation, beam splitting, and logic operations—areachieved ...

Self-collimated slow sound in sonic crystals
Abstract Self-collimated slow-sound propagation in a two-dimensional rectangular sonic crystal composed of elliptical scatterers in air is numerically demonstrated. The group velocity at the centre and the edges of the fourth acoustic band is reduced to 45 m s−1 and 30 m s−1, corresponding to 1/8 and 1/12 of the speed of sound in air ...
