Defiant pride: Origins and consequences of ethnic voting

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Political Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Why do voters often remain loyal to ethnic parties despite receiving little in terms of material welfare? I develop a theory focused on the role of dignity concerns in explaining within‐group variation in ethnic party loyalty. Group members who face discrimination from state agencies dominated by outgroups respond with defiant pride, which ...

Fats, Fire and Bronze Age Funerary Rites: Organic Residue Analysis of Wide Horizontal Rim Vessels From Burial Contexts in Northwest Portugal

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents the first GC‐MS–based analyses of wide horizontal rim vessels with well‐defined funerary contexts, from Middle Bronze Age Portugal (Quinta do Amorim 2 and Pego). Organic residues from two vessels revealed ruminant fats and plant oils, alongside molecular markers of heat exposure.

Numerical investigation of soot formation in diesel jet flame with KIVA-3V

open access: yesRevue des Énergies Renouvelables, 2009
Diesel engines emit a Large amount of pollutants essentially soot particles. This paper describes a 3D modeling on platform of a 3-D code for engine thermodynamic simulation Kiva-3V. A Hiroyasu model for soot formation was used originally, it’s a twostep

Latent Profile Analysis of Challenging Behaviour in Individuals With Intellectual Disabilities: Examining Associated Factors and Life Satisfaction

open access: yesBritish Journal of Learning Disabilities, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Challenging behaviours (CBs) are known to adversely affect life satisfaction among individuals with intellectual disabilities. Little is known about the impact of different profiles of CBs amongst individuals with intellectual disabilities in South Korea.

Soot formation and radiation in turbulent jet diffusion flames under normal and reduced gravity conditions [PDF]

open access: yes
Most practical combustion processes, as well as fires and explosions, exhibit some characteristics of turbulent diffusion flames. For hydrocarbon fuels, the presence of soot particles significantly increases the level of radiative heat transfer from ...

Stratigraphic evidence for modern‐like glacier extents in south‐central Alaska within the last glacial period (MIS 3)

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The last (Wisconsinan) glacial period was punctuated in North America by two glacial maxima, known as the Early and Late Wisconsinan glaciations. In Alaska, these maxima and their subsequent retreats have been the object of dating efforts to reconstruct local climatic events and compare them to global trends.

The effect of seawater hardness on cotton fabric dyeing using reactive blue dye

open access: yesColoration Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Oceans are an abundant source of water; their economic potential has not yet been fully exploited. In this context, the current study aims to apply seawater in the dyeing of cotton fabrics, evaluating the influence that total hardness has on the process results.

Textile and colour defect detection using deep learning methods

open access: yesColoration Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Recent advances in deep learning (DL) have significantly enhanced the detection of textile and colour defects. This review focuses specifically on the application of DL‐based methods for defect detection in textile and coloration processes, with an emphasis on object detection and related computer vision (CV) tasks.

Temporal Evolution of Soot Particles from C2H2/O2 Combustion in a Closed Chamber

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2002
An experimental study of soot formation in C2H2/O2 flames at different C/O ratios in a closed chamber was carried out. The evolution temporal behavior and the volume fraction of soot particles were determined by laser extinction.
