Statistical study on soot volume fractions of buoyant turbulent diffusion fires

Fire and Materials, 2022
SummaryThe statistical soot properties of buoyant turbulent diffusion propane fire were experimentally and theoretically studied with different fuel sooting tendencies by nitrogen addition. Results show that nitrogen addition decreases the instantaneous soot volume fraction and increases soot intermittency. The combination of these two factors together

Digital camera measurements of soot temperature and soot volume fraction in axisymmetric flames

Applied Optics, 2013
New diagnostics are presented that use a digital camera to measure full-field soot temperatures and soot volume fractions in axisymmetric flames. The camera is a Nikon D700 with 12 megapixels and 14 bit depth in each color plane, which was modified by removing the infrared and anti-aliasing filters.

Simultaneous imaging of temperature and soot volume fraction

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2011
This paper demonstrates the first simultaneous single-shot imaging of temperature and soot volume fraction, measured with nonlinear regime two-line atomic fluorescence (NTLAF) and laser-induced incandescence (LII), respectively. The measurements are performed in laminar premixed and nonpremixed flames, and in a wrinkled nonpremixed flame.

Soot volume fraction measurements in a forest fuel layer

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2014
This paper presents an experimental study of soot particles produced during the combustion of Radiata died pine needles. The samples were oven dried at 333 K for 12 h, then the fuel elements were prepared in order to obtain a small cylindrical fuel sample of about 1.50g. The wildland fuel layer was ignited with 0.7 mL of ethanol obtaining a homogeneous

Soot volume fraction and particle size measurements with laser-induced incandescence

Applied Optics, 1997
Laser-induced incandescence from soot was analyzed with a time-dependent, numerical model of particle heating and cooling processes that includes spatial and temporal intensity profiles associated with laser sheet illumination. For volume fraction measurements, substantial errors result primarily from changes in gas temperature and primary soot ...

Modelling of soot formation in diesel engines exploiting measurements of soot volume fraction and diameter

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Quantitative measurements of the soot volume fraction and diameter performed by spectroscopic techniques within the combustion chamber of a diesel engine are employed to aid multidimensional simulation of the soot formation and oxidation processes.

Determination of the Soot Volume Fraction in an Ethylene Diffusion Flame by Multiwavelength Analysis of Soot Radiation

Combustion and Flame, 1998
The features of the multiwavelength emission technique for the measurement of soot volume fraction and temperature in an ethylene diffusion flame have been investigated. For this purpose we have exploited the emission spectra from 300 nm to 800 nm and a mathematical Abel inversion procedure. To interpret the measurements, the quantity fv/Kabs = ?/(36?F(

Soot Volume Fraction Measurements in the Soot-forming Regions of Ethylene-AirTurbulent Partially-premixed Flames

Combustion Science and Technology, 1998
Soot formation characteristics of ethylene-air turbulent partially premixed flames have been experimentally determined by measuring the soot volume Traction, via laser-induced incandescence. Measurements were made in the near-burner soot-forming region up to axial distance of 25 burner diameters.
