Linear and nonlinear theory of long-wave Marangoni instability with the Soret effect at finite Biot numbers

Physics of Fluids, 2006
We investigate the long-wave Marangoni instability in binary-liquid layers in the presence of the Soret effect in the case of finite Biot numbers. Linear stability theory reveals both long-wave monotonic and oscillatory modes of instability in various parameter domains.

Effects of Soret and Dufour Numbers on the Three-Dimensional MHD Flow of Micropolar Fluid Containing Gyrotactic Microorganisms Over a Bidirectional Stretching Sheet With Cattaneo–Christov Heat and Mass Flux Model

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2022
Abstract Stretching flow problems have several real-world applications in engineering, biological, and industrial fields. The real-world applications of the stretching sheet flow problems are continuous cooling of fiber, manufacturing of rubber and plastics sheets, metal-working processes, crystal growth processes, drawing of the ...

Effects of Joules Heating and Soret Number on Double-Diffusive Mixed Convection Flow in an Enclosed Square Cavity

2020
In this paper, a double-diffusive mixed convection flow in an enclosed cavity with the effects of Soret number (Sr) and Joule’s heating parameter (J) is presented. Finite volume approach-based differed quadratic upstream interpolation for convective kinematics (QUICK) scheme and central difference scheme are used to resolve the respective convective ...

Long-Wave Marangoni Instability in a Binary-Liquid Layer with a Deformable Interface in the Presence of the Soret Effect: The Case of Finite Biot Numbers

Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 2007
An incompressible binary liquid with a deformable free surface is adjacent to a solid layer, heated or cooled from below. The surface tension depends linearly on both the temperature and the solute concentration. The authors reveal the emergence of the long-wave Marangoni instabilities for finite Biot numbers in the limit of small Lewis and Galileo ...

Analysis of the Influence of the Soret Number on Axisymmetric Flow Through the Application of the Successive Linearization Technique

Heat Transfer
ABSTRACTThis study presents a mathematical model that delineates the radially expanding axisymmetric discharge of an electrically conductive fluid over a surface, taking into account the effects of the Soret number. The dynamics of the flow are examined as the surface experiences exponential radial expansion.

Impact of Soret and Dufour Numbers on MHD Casson Fluid Flow Past an Exponentially Stretching Sheet with Non-Uniform Heat Source/Sink

Defect and Diffusion Forum, 2018
Present study deals with the impact of cross diffusion on Casson fluid flow in the presence of Lorentz force. Flow is caused by the exponential stretching of surface in two lateral directions. The influence of space dependent varying heat sink/source is also contemplated.

Effect of Soret Number on Axis Symmetric Flow Using Successive Linearization Method

In this research, the radially increasing axisymmetric discharge of an electrically conducting fluid across a surface is accurately evaluated mathematically using the influence of Soret number. The surface is extended at an exponential speed in a radial direction, which causes flow trends.

Soret Diffusion and Non‐Ideal Dufour Conduction in Macroporous Catalysts with Exothermic Chemical Reaction at Large Intrapellet Damköhler Numbers

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2007
AbstractThe adiabatic temperature rise in catalytic pellets is predicted from a modified version of the Prater equation. Onsager reciprocal relations for coupled heat and mass transfer are violated in an analysis of thermal diffusion in macroporous catalysts with exothermic chemical reaction when Dufour conduction (i.e., the diffusion‐thermo effect) is

Effects of chemical reaction and thermal stratification on MHD free convective heat and mass transfer over a vertical stretching surface embedded in a porous media considering Soret and Dufour numbers

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2008
Abstract An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of chemical reaction, thermal stratification, Soret number and Dufour number on MHD free convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid on a vertical stretching surface embedded in a saturated porous medium.
