Role of cover crop roots in soil organic carbon accrual—A review
Abstract Appropriate cover crop (CC) management is an important tool for the improvement of soil carbon stock; however, the relationships between carbon accumulation and CC root traits remain unclear. A literature review was performed to identify the extent and focus of recent research and to answer questions about the role of root traits of CCs in ...

Nutritive value and forage accumulation of a black oat germplasm in the northeastern United States
Abstract Black oat (Avena strigosa Schreb.) might be an attractive forage species in the northeastern United States, since it is generally more heat tolerant and disease resistant than other cool‐season grasses. Black oat is currently recommended for fall and winter production in USDA Plant Hardiness ones 8b–10a, which is beyond the northeastern United

Improving a nitrogen mineralization model for predicting unfertilized corn yield
Abstract Crop N decision support tools are typically based on either empirical relationships that lack mechanistic underpinnings or simulation models that are too complex to use on farms with limited input data. We developed an N mineralization model for corn that lies between these endpoints; it includes a mechanistic model structure reflecting ...
