Fate of the organophosphate herbicide glyphosate in arable soils and its relationship to soil phosphorus status [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Glyphosate is one of the world's most widely used herbicides. This study was undertaken to unravel the factors affecting its movement, sorption, persistence and leachability in different Finnish soils to create a sound basis for risk assessment. Field

Sorption and activation of hydrocarbons by molecular sieves [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Substantial progress has been made recently in the understanding of sorption and activation of alkanes. This progress reflects the emergence of new theoretical and experimental results, leading to a more quantitative picture of the elementary steps ...

Stoma‐Shell Nanoarchitecture for Enhanced Plasma Confinement Catalysis in Synthesis of Ethanol from CO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐energy electron impact in plasma catalysis often causes excessive dissociation of active intermediates, limiting C2+ product selectivity. To address this challenge, a bio‐inspired stoma‐shell nanoarchitecture is designed to decouple electron impact from catalytic reaction zones.

Theory of Sorption Hysteresis in Nanoporous Solids: II. Molecular condensation

open access: yes, 2011
Motivated by the puzzle of sorption hysteresis in Portland cement concrete or cement paste, we develop in Part II of this study a general theory of vapor sorption and desorption from nanoporous solids, which attributes hysteresis to hindered molecular ...

Photothermal Macroporous Lignin Cryogels for Off‐Grid, Continuous Atmospheric Water Collection via Interlayer Heat Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photothermal, macroporous lignin‐based cryogels are engineered to convert sunlight into low‐grade heat. Integrated as stacked beds in a drum‐type device, a thin copper interlayer transfers waste heat between beds, enabling interlayer heat recovery and continuous solar cycling.

Bioavailability of pesticides in freshwater sediments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In ecological risk assessment standardized sediment toxicity tests are used to predict the hazard of chemicals for sediment-living organisms. Feeding is a prerequisite in these long-term tests to avoid starvation of test organisms.

The role of limestone and dolomite tailings’ particle size in retention of heavy metals from liquid waste [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Purpose. The study aims at investigating the role of particle size of mineral tailings derived from limestone, limestone marble, dolomite and dolomitic marble in heavy metal adsorption, in both batch and fixed bed conditions, so as to estimate whether ...

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction: Metal Integration Principles, Strategies and Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with metals have been recognized as versatile platforms for photocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2PRR). Herein, an overview of metal integration strategies for COFs is systematically summarized. Regulatory mechanisms and structure–activity relationships between metal integration and COF‐based CO2PRR are emphasized.

Thermodynamic Analysis of Cyclic Operation of On-Board Nanoporous Carbon-Based Adsorbed Methane Storage Tank with Various Thermal Control Systems

open access: yesChemEngineering
Thermal effects of adsorption and desorption, leading to temperature fluctuations and losses of adsorption storage systems capacity in the processes of gas charging and discharging, are the main obstacle to the wide practical application of adsorbed ...
