The problem of sorting a file distributed over a number of sites of a communication network is examined. Two versions of this problem are investigated; distributed solution algorithms are presented; and their communication complexity analyzed both in the worst and in the average case.

Using SORT, sorting directories, sorting a file
1989In this lesson you will learn to: * use the SORT command * sort directories * sort files One of the most useful tasks a computer can do is to sort data into order. This data can be of any type: alphabetic, numeric or a mixture of both.

Improved Divide/Sort/Merge Sorting Networks
SIAM Journal on Computing, 1975This paper develops sorting networks using the divide/sort/merge strategy. These networks require \[ (0.25)N( \log _2 N )^2 - (0.386)N( \log _2 N ) + O(N) \] comparison-interchanges to sort a list of length N. This is an improvement of order $N(\log _2 N)$ over the best networks previously reported.

Deductive Sort and Climbing Sort: New Methods for Non-Dominated Sorting
Evolutionary Computation, 2012In recent years an increasing number of real-world many-dimensional optimisation problems have been identified across the spectrum of research fields. Many popular evolutionary algorithms use non-dominance as a measure for selecting solutions for future generations.

Sorting algorithms are a major area of research in computer science and engineering where the simple task of sorting the numbers leads to complex algorithms. In recent years, many researchers have proposed several sorting techniques to enhance time and space complexities of the algorithms.

Sorting Letters, Sorting Lives
2010Linda Benbow examines the organizational culture and various levels of diversity found in an urban United States Postal Service mail processing facility. She shows how employee perceptions of social differences and their interactions with coworkers contributes to their identity and work life within the organization. Painting detailed portraits of race,

This letter documents the conversations of a participatory action research team consisting of one doctoral student and eight New York City high school students. The letter documents the process of creating the instrument that was used to collect data from other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer and questioning students.

Computers and the tasks they perform are becoming increasingly important in medicine. It behooves medical personnel to become familiar with some computer functions so that they may be in a better position to demand and evaluate a given implementation. One very basic computer task is sorting information.

Sorting sweet sorting. Protein secretion.
Current biology : CB, 1997Membrane-spanning, lectin-like proteins in the eukaryotic secretory pathway seem to operate quality-control checkpoints by fine tuning protein exit or retention within each subcompartment.
