Improving Sound Event Detection In Domestic Environments Using Sound Separation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Performing sound event detection on real-world recordings often implies dealing with overlapping target sound events and non-target sounds, also referred to as interference or noise. Until now these problems were mainly tackled at the classifier level. We propose to use sound separation as a pre-processing for sound event detection.

Music Interventions in Hyperacute and Acute Stroke Patients: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Feasibility Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Music interventions have been shown to have beneficial effects on hemodynamic parameters, pain, and anxiety in various medical settings. However, music interventions in the setting of acute stroke have not been studied. The objective of this trial was to perform a pilot feasibility study of music interventions in the setting of acute

Numerical study on prediction and discrimination methods of propeller tip vortex cavitation inception

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
Tip vortex cavitation is typically the first type of cavitation in real ship propellers due to the scale effect. To lessen or eliminate propeller cavitation noise, it is necessary to effectively identify and predict the tip vortex cavitation initiation ...

Discussion of the De Generatione Sonorum, a treatise on sound and phonetics by Robert Grosseteste [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Here I am proposing a translation and discussion of the De Generatione Sonorum, one of the short scientific treatises written by Robert Grosseteste. The subject is the sound and the phonetics.

The Healing Power of Sound in Theatre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In my time at the University of California, San Diego, I have experimented with how sound physically affects the human body. There has been a swarm of research that not only suggests that sound therapy re-aligns your brain and helps with mindset changes,

Home‐Based Tele‐tDCS in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Feasibility, Safety, and Preliminary Efficacy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with limited treatment options. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) shows promise as a neuromodulatory intervention in various neurological disorders, but its application in ALS, particularly in a remote, home‐based format, remains underexplored.

Improving Target Sound Extraction with Timestamp Information [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract the sound part of a target sound event class from a mixture audio with multiple sound events. The previous works mainly focus on the problems of weakly-labelled data, jointly learning and new classes, however, no one cares about the onset and offset times of the target sound event, which has been ...

Generating Visually Aligned Sound from Videos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We focus on the task of generating sound from natural videos, and the sound should be both temporally and content-wise aligned with visual signals. This task is extremely challenging because some sounds generated \emph{outside} a camera can not be inferred from video content.

Patient Perceptions of Medication Therapy for Prevention of Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury: A Qualitative Content Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) accounts for nearly 12% of osteoarthritis incidences and often occurs after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Ensuring the uptake of preventive treatments for PTOA requires that investigators and clinicians understand factors influencing patients to seek preventive therapies.
