Phytochrome E Plays a Role in the Suppression of Germination in Far‐Red Light in Tomato

open access: yesPlant Direct
As photoautotrophs, plants use light not only as a source of energy but also as cues for directing growth and development. Phytochromes comprise a small gene family of plant specific light receptors that absorb mostly in the red/far‐red portion of the ...

Numerical study on prediction and discrimination methods of propeller tip vortex cavitation inception

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
Tip vortex cavitation is typically the first type of cavitation in real ship propellers due to the scale effect. To lessen or eliminate propeller cavitation noise, it is necessary to effectively identify and predict the tip vortex cavitation initiation ...

Zero Lattice Sound

open access: yes, 2004
We study the N_f-flavor Gross-Neveu model in 2+1 dimensions with a baryon chemical potential mu, using both analytical and numerical methods. In particular, we study the self-consistent Boltzmann equation in the Fermi liquid framework using the ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Mammalian cochlea as a physics guided evolution-optimized hearing sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Nonlinear physics plays an essential role in hearing, from sound signal generation to sound sensing to the processing of complex sound environments. We demonstrate that the evolution of the biological hearing sensors demonstrates a dramatic reduction in ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
