Sound absorption performance of natural fibers and their composites

Science China Technological Sciences, 2012
This research aimed to study the sound absorption properties of natural fibers and their reinforced composites. Sound absorption coefficients of three types of natural fibers, i.e., ramie, flax and jute fibers and their composites were measured by the two-microphone transfer function technique in the impedance tube.

Programmable sound absorption performance enabled by 3D printed fibers

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings, 2023
Design of acoustic materials can be achieved through the connection between their geometry and acoustical performance. Here, we propose 3D-printing as an enabling technology that allows us to precisely control an acoustic material's micro-geometry and orientation, which then eliminates microscopic geometry bias due to conventional manufacturing ...

Floor impact sound reduction and impact absorption performance of floor mat

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2023
In Korea, the post evaluation system of floor impact sound performance was implemented in August 2022. Therefore, it is necessary to check the floor impact sound performance after the completion of the apartment. If a floor impact sound performance does not meet the regulation limit, compensationm and follow-up renovations are required.

Optimization of sound absorption performance of a new ecological material

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013
Material selection is foremost design parameter in providing acoustical comfort levels in both acoustically sensitive and noise generating spaces ranging from the small size meeting halls to large scale multipurpose auditoriums and even from foyers to shopping malls. Architects usually prefer seamless, unperforated materials in line with their interior

Improved low-frequency performance of a composite sound absorption coating

Journal of Vibration and Control, 2011
In order to improve the low-frequency acoustic performance, a composite sound absorption coating made by embedding another viscoelastic material into the viscoelastic substrate of the traditional sound absorption coating, has been developed. Compared to the substrate, the transverse wave speed of the embedded-layer is lower.

Sound Absorption Performance of Coir Fiber/Polylactic Acid Composite Microperforated Panel

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings, 2023
Microperforated panel (MPP) is considered a unique and promising sound absorber, as its sound absorption performance depends on parameters such as perforation ratio, perforation diameter, and air gap thickness. In this study, the MPP was fabricated through conventional mixing, granulating, and hot compression methods.

Sound absorption performance of corncob/hemp composite fabric material

Textile Research Journal
Agro-industrial waste corncob was used to develop a new thin corncob/hemp composite fabric (CHCF) material to improve the sound absorption performance of fiber materials. CHCF materials were prepared from agro-industrial waste corncob pellets and natural hemp fiber by spreading corncob pellets in hemp fiber webs, layering, and high-temperature ...

Experimental Research on Sound Absorption Performance of Low-Noise Pavement

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
OGFC can reduce traffic noise which has very high air-void contents to absorb tire-pavement noise. This paper proposes maximum aggregate size and aggregate gradation of OGFC with the objective void of 20%. Performance of modified asphalt and best asphalt-aggregate ratio are also proposed with four kinds of modifiers, including SBS, rubber, EVA and PVC.

Sound absorption performance of thin hierarchical honeycomb panel with embedded porous-layer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
A novel sound-absorbing structure based on thin hierarchical honeycomb panel with embedded porous-layer (HHPEP) is designed, and an impedence-based analytical model based on the equivalent circuit method is proposed to capture its absorption characteristics accurately. The better sound absorption performance of HHPEP absorbers than that of conventional
