Automatic loudspeaker directivity control for sound field reconstruction

IIEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
An enhancement to sound field reconstruction is proposed which improves subjective spatial perception and widens the sweet spot size of a 5 channel surround system. With the popularization of multi-channel audio systems, consumers have access to artificially generated surround sound found in movie audio tracks in addition to recordings featuring the ...

Tomographic reconstruction of sound fields using TV holography

Applied Optics, 1995
Combining TV holography recording with acoustic phase stepping and image processing, we measure the integrated density distribution in sound fields that propagate in air. We record a given number of two-dimensional cross sections that are tomographically backprojected to give the amplitude and phase distributions of the emitted sound field.

Multigrid reconstruction of sound fields using moving microphones

2017 Hands-free Speech Communications and Microphone Arrays (HSCMA), 2017
A multi-resolution technique is presented for sound field recovery based on measurements of one or multiple moving microphones. The interpolation of the spatial samples enables us to set up a system of linear equations that recovers room impulse responses on a virtual uniform grid in space.

Nonwavelength-limited holographic sound field reconstruction

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1984
A method and apparatus are described for holographically generating visual representations of acoustical characteristics of sound sources. A planar array has a lattice of microphone receiving points are disposed such that evanescent wave energy from the sources is detected along with propagating wave energy. The microphone outputs are sampled, resolved

Sensor array design for sparse sound field reconstruction

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2023
The compressive-equivalent source method can reconstruct the sound field of the sparsely distributed sound sources through promoting the sparsity of the equivalent source strengths. To reduce the mutual coherence of the sensing matrix, the spatially random sampling is performed.

Wave superposition based sound field reconstruction

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Science), 2008
In order to overcome the obstacle of singular integral in boundary element method (BEM), we presented an efficient sound field reconstruction technique based on the wave superposition method (WSM). Its principle includes three steps: first, the sound pressure field of an arbitrary shaped radiator is measured with a microphone array; then, the exterior ...

Repairing distorted hologram data for sound field reconstruction

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
This paper proposes a distorted hologram data repair approach for sound field reconstruction. In this approach, an equivalent source model is established by placing a set of equivalent sources near the hologram surface to represent the measured hologram pressures.

Analysis and Design of Multichannel Systems for Perceptual Sound Field Reconstruction

IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2013
This paper presents a systematic framework for the analysis and design of circular multichannel surround sound systems. Objective analysis based on the concept of active intensity fields shows that for stable rendition of monochromatic plane waves it is beneficial to render each such wave by no more than two channels.

Robust Room Equalization Using Sparse Sound-field Reconstruction

ICASSP 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2019
The perceived quality of a sound played in a closed room is often degraded by the added reverberation. In order to combat these effects, the methods of room impulse response equalization may be used. Typically, properties of the human auditory system, such as temporal masking, are used for a better control of the late echoes. There, a prefilter is used

Artifacts in the sound field of a moving sound source reconstructed from a microphone array recording

2009 IEEE Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics, 2009
We present an analysis of the sound field of a moving sound source reconstructed from recordings of a virtual dual-radius open-sphere microphone array. As a consequence of the discrete property of such microphone distributions artifacts arise, most notably spatial aliasing and spatial bandwidth limitation artifacts.
