Work performance in private office rooms: The effects of sound insulation and sound masking

open access: yesBuilding and Environment, 2016
Abstract Our purpose was to examine whether present sound insulation guidelines of private office rooms provide optimal cognitive performance and acoustic satisfaction. 32 voluntary students participated in our laboratory experiment. The experiment simulated two adjacent office rooms. Speaker was in room 1 and listener in room 2.

Acoustic performance in a lightweight ventilated façade for building refurbishment: analysing the impact of variations in airborne sound insulation according to the ventilation characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The use of double-sheet enclosures with an intermediate air chamber in façades guarantees a higher quality of acoustic insulation against external airborne noise.

Development of a vibration-damping, sound-insulating, and heat-insulating porous sphere foam system and its application in green buildings

open access: yesScientific Reports
With the development of green buildings, people pay more attention to the quality of the indoor sound environment. The air sound insulation performance of floors and exterior walls plays a key role in today's green buildings.

A Numerical Investigation of the Trade-Off Between Sound Insulation and Air Ventilation for a Partially Open Door

open access: yesEng
As urban buildings become increasingly dense, indoor personnel are often exposed to noise disturbances from adjoining rooms which can reduce working efficiency and affect mental health.

Interactive real-time auralization of airborne sound insulation in buildings

open access: yesActa Acustica, 2021
Sound insulation auralization can be used as valuable tool to study the perceptual aspects of sound transmission in built environments for assessment of noise effects on people. It may help to further develop guidelines for building constructions.

Experimental Investigation on the Acoustic Insulation Properties of Filled Paper Honeycomb-Core Wallboards

open access: yesBiomimetics
Honeycomb plates, due to their multi-cavity structure, exhibit excellent mechanical properties and sound insulation. Previous studies have demonstrated that altering the cell size and arrangement of honeycomb structures impacts their acoustic performance.

Influence of loudspeaker directivity on the measurement uncertainty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
One of the most significant aspects of a building’s acoustic behavior is the airborne sound insulation of the room façades, since this determines the protection of its inhabitants against environmental noise.

Research on the combination of water and membranes as a structural building material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
p. 3024-3033The aim of this paper is to investigate the combination of water and membranes for temporary architectural applications. Water as a construction material, can be useful for three different purposes: first of all, thanks to its thermal ...

Sound fields near building facades: comparison of finite and semi-infinite reflectors on a rigid ground plane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The sound field in front of, and close to a building facade is relevant to the measurement and prediction of environmental noise and sound insulation. For simplicity it is often assumed that the facade can be treated as a semi-infinite reflector, however
