2D sound-source localization on the binaural manifold [PDF]

open access: yes2012 IEEE International Workshop on Machine Learning for Signal Processing, 2012
The problem of 2D sound-source localization based on a robotic binaural setup and audio-motor learning is addressed. We first introduce a methodology to experimentally verify the existence of a locally-linear bijective mapping between sound-source positions and high-dimensional interaural data, using manifold learning.

Towards Robust Multiple Blind Source Localization Using Source Separation and Beamforming

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Multiple blind sound source localization is the key technology for a myriad of applications such as robotic navigation and indoor localization. However, existing solutions can only locate a few sound sources simultaneously due to the limitation imposed ...

Reliability measure for sound source localization

open access: yesIEICE Electronics Express, 2008
In this paper, we propose a method of measuring the reliability of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation results. One idea for the reliability measure arises from a waterbed effect in DOA estimation. The reliability measure can be obtained from the difference between the maximum and minimum point of cross-correlation.

Nondeterministic sound source localization with smartphones in crowdsensing [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communication Workshops (PerCom Workshops), 2016
The proliferation of smartphones nowadays has enabled many crowd assisted applications including audio-based sensing. In such applications, detected sound sources are meaningless without location information. However, it is challenging to localize sound sources accurately in a crowd using only microphones integrated in smartphones without existing ...

Head‐related transfer function–reserved time‐frequency masking for robust binaural sound source localization

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, 2022
Various time‐frequency (T‐F) masks are being applied to sound source localization tasks. Moreover, deep learning has dramatically advanced T‐F mask estimation. However, existing masks are usually designed for speech separation tasks and are suitable only

Localization of sound sources in robotics: A review

open access: yesRobotics and Autonomous Systems, 2017
