Controlled Angle Sound Transmission Loss Experiment

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2003
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper reviews how sound transmission loss (STL) of insulators is affected by gravitational and thermal effects. A special STL test fixture was designed and fabricated to quickly and accurately obtain the STL measurement of a sample oriented at various controlled angles.

The incudo-malleolar joint and sound transmission losses

Hearing Research, 2002
The question as to whether the incudo-malleolar joint (IMJ) is mobile or immobile at moderate sound pressure levels (SPLs) is addressed. Referring to the mechanical properties of elastic tissue, we suggest that the IMJ is mobile at any SPL. In order to test this hypothesis, we investigated the dynamics of the IMJ in nine temporal bones by means of ...

Sound Transmission Loss of Panels

2015
In general, the noise level inside a building or structure is determined by the transmission of air-borne sound from external and internal acoustic sources and by structure-borne sound induced by some mechanical sources.

An indirect hybrid sound transmission loss controller

Applied Acoustics, 2012
Abstract The control of sound transmission through panels is an important noise control problem in the aerospace, aeronautical, and automotive industries. The trend towards using lightweight composite materials that have lower sound insulation performance is a negative factor regarding low frequency transmission loss. Double-panel partitions with the

The measurement of sound transmission loss of panels with small transmission loss

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1965
Abstract The transmission room method for the measurement of transmission loss is reviewed and the lower limits of validity established. An alternative method for measuring low loss panels is described.

Simplified vented acoustic window with broadband sound transmission loss

Applied Acoustics, 2023
A vented window design is presented allowing for air ventilation and improved sound reduction for urban traffic noise. The window design aims to be of simple construction, consisting of double-glass cells with a two-sided vent opening and a single internal division that splits the inner cavity into two resonators tuned at about 200 and 400 Hz.

Sound transmission loss through nanoclay-reinforced polymers

Iranian Polymer Journal, 2015
Excessive noises frequently disturb people by fatigue, reduced working efficiency and health system disorders. An efficient method to reduce noise is to find and apply sound insulation materials. Research and development on nanocomposites as a sound insulation material are quite advanced.

Sound Transmission Loss of Thick Perforated Panels

Building Acoustics, 2001
A study is reported of the sound transmission loss of perforated panels. The study includes a theoretical analysis and measurement by means of sound intensity. The predicted transmission loss is similar to that measured above 630 Hz. The maximum discrepancy is less than 2 dB.
