The Design and Formalization of an Embodied Soundscape Sonification Framework
International Journal of Human-Computer InteractionThis paper explores the design, evaluation, and formalisation of a framework for the creation of soundscape sonifications: data-to-sound mappings which make use of sounds recorded from real-world sources to communicate information to a listener. This approach is informed by design principles from the field of embodied cognitive science. It opens with a

Potential of a soundscape element design
In contemporary metropolitan scene the historical heritages, including also public open spaces, have to face the high increase of density of infrastructures and buildings, with the consequent change of visual and sound scenarios, which in turn affect people's quality of life.

Soundscape descriptors and a conceptual framework for developing predictive soundscape models [PDF]
Soundscape exists through human perception of the acoustic environment. This paper investigates how soundscape currently is assessed and measured. It reviews and analyzes the main soundscape descriptors in the soundscape literature, and provides a ...

FIVE LEVELS OF SOUNDSCAPE DESIGN
Inter-Noise 2022, 2023Siebein (2010) identified 5 levels of architectural soundscapes: inspiration; planning; conceptual structure; tectonics; and detail. Case studies of the use of the levels are presented to illustrate how architects often use inspiration and planning metaphors to begin the design of a building.

Proceedings of the 14th International Audio Mostly Conference: A Journey in Sound, 2019
The design of New Musical Interfaces (NMIs) has been informed by principles and methods core to Human-computer Interaction. Largely, the field of NMIs remains focused on usability as it evaluates and designs interfaces. Both fields, however, recognize but still wrestle with the need to adopt a more humanistic approach to both design and evaluation.

A Tiny Field for Soundscape Design
Acoustic Ecology Review, 2023The author worked out his idea of the ‘soundscape museum’ as an experiment in order to put into practice ideas on soundscape design that can be executed by any individual citizen. He ran the Hirano Soundscape Museum (HSM) from 1998 to 2004 as part of a grass-roots activity for com- munity development in Hirano, Osaka, Japan.

Designing personalized soundscape for care facilities
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2022Sound is a critical element in making people aware of their environment; it gives people a sense of place and time. Soundscape relies not only on the objective quality of sound by quantifying the sound level but also on the subjective quality of the auditory environment based on people's perceptions.
