Investigation of the Influence of Hypercapnia on the Physiology of Ovigerous West Coast Rock Lobsters, Jasus lalandii, and Their Embryonic Development [PDF]

open access: yesBiology
The West Coast rock lobster, Jasus lalandii, is a key ecological species and provides an important fishery resource in South Africa and Namibia. It is found along the west coast of southern Africa in the dynamic Benguela Current upwelling system. The low

High Gene Flow With Patterns of Asymmetric Connectivity and Adaptive Divergence in the New Zealand Southern Rock Lobster, Jasus edwardsii (Hutton, 1875). [PDF]

open access: yesEvol Appl
ABSTRACT Understanding patterns of connectivity and adaptive divergence is crucial for supporting conservation and sustainable management of harvested species. This study utilised single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to investigate spatially explicit patterns of genetic structure, gene flow and adaptive divergence in the commercially important ...

Population Structure and Genetic Diversity Analyses Reveal Isolation That May Imperil the Northernmost Colony of the Endangered Australian Sea Lion. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Rapid warming of marine environments is threatening ecosystems, especially species at the edge of their range. This study analysed the genetic structure and diversity of Australian sea lion populations and found the northernmost population to be highly isolated with extremely low genetic variation.

Changes in Panulirus cygnus Settlement Along Western Australia Using a Long Time Series

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
The pelagic development stages of many marine invertebrate species dictates their spatial and temporal distribution once reaching their benthic second phase of life. This life cycle is associated with the Western Rock Lobster (Panulirus cygnus) along the

Updating the 2022 south coast rock lobster assessment

open access: yes, 2022
This document present results of an updated stock assessment for the South Coast rock lobster (Palinurus gilchristi) fishery. This assessment will provide the underlying operating model for simulation testing of new OMP candidates in order to develop a revised OMP-2023 for the fishery.

Development of a new OMP for south coast rock lobster

open access: yes, 2021
This document lists some proposed changes that should be made to the Base Case OMP to develop a new OMP for the South Coast rock lobster fishery.

Long-term, Ecosystem-Scale Changes in the Southern Benguela Marine Pelagic Social-Ecological System: Interaction of Natural and Human Drivers

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2013
South Africa's small pelagics fishery is currently the largest in volume and second largest in value in the southern Benguela. It exploits short-lived, small pelagic fishes such as anchovy (for reduction into fish meal and oil) and sardine (for reduction

South Coast Rock Lobster: a new management target

open access: yes, 2023
Current spawning/exploitable biomass for the south coast rock lobster resource is estimated to be 41%/45% of K. The Reference Case (RC) MSY estimate is 420 MT at a Bsp/K of 0.35 (a Bexp/K of 0.42). Fmsy is estimated to be 0.11, though MSY-related estimates are heavily dependent on assumptions made about the stock-recruitment relationship.

Spatial Variability in Condition of Southern Rock Lobsters (Jasus edwardsii) at the Start of the Tasmanian Fishing Season.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The southern rock lobster (Jasus edwardsii) industry in Australia favours red lobsters, which are usually caught in shallow waters, over paler (brindle) lobsters.
