FIMS length composition and percentage of females of the west coast rock lobster resource of South Africa

2010
Length frequency distributions obtained from the FIMS of the west coast rock lobster constitute one of data inputs into the assessment as well as an estimate of the percentage of females. The length composition of the catch for each station and leg is obtained from measurements of a sub-sample of the catch, or sometimes the whole catch is measured ...

The 2004 age-structured production model assessments and projections for the South Coast rock lobster resource

2004
The assessment conducted in 2003 has been routinely extended, taking account of a further year’s catch, CPUE and catch-at-age data. CPUE shows a continuation of the increase that commenced in 1998. Results are generally more optimistic than those for the 2003 assessment; this is shown to be a result of both the new abundance data now available as well ...

Recommended TAC 2010 for the South Coast rock lobster resource using re-tuned OMP 2010

2010
Re-tuned OMP 2010 (Johnston and Butterworth 2010) is used here to calculate the TAC for the South Coast Rock Lobster resource for the 2010 season. (Note the convention that 2010 is used to refer to the 2010/2011 season.) Note that re-tuned OMP-2010: 1. has a 5% maximum TAC change constraint, and 2.

Recommended TAC 2011 for the South Coast rock lobster resource using re-tuned OMP 2010

2011
Re-tuned OMP 2010 (Johnston and Butterworth 2010) is used here to calculate the TAC for the South Coast Rock Lobster resource for the 2011 season. (Note the convention that 2010 is used to refer to the 2010/2011 season.)

Further results for the Sex- and Area-specific Age-Structured Production Model for the South Coast rock lobster resource

2008
This document provides an update on the development of sex- and area-specific operating models for testing candidate OMPs for the South Coast rock lobster resource. Models are needed which can provide reasonable fits to both the CPUE and catch-at-length data available.

The 2006 age-structured production model assessments and projections for the South Coast rock lobster resource-routine update

2006
The assessment conducted in 2006 has been routinely extended, taking account of a further year’s catch, CPUE and catch-at-age data. CPUE shows a continuation of the increase that commenced in 1998. The sustainable yield estimates are generally very similar to those for the 2005 assessment, although estimates of current biomass levels relative to K ...

Preliminary specifications for the sex- and area-specific Operating Models for testing OMPs for the South Coast rock lobster resource

2008
Johnston and Butterworth (2008b) presented some initial results for sex- and areaspecific age structured production models intended to serve as operating models for testing OMPs for the south coast rock lobster resource. Here the authors update those results as well as produce results for a model which takes effort saturation into account.

The 2005 Age-Structured Production Model assessments and constant catch projections for the south coast rock lobster resource

2005
The 2005 assessment was routinely extended, taking account of a further year’s catch, CPUE and catch-at-age data. CPUE shows a continuation of the increase that commenced in 1998. However, sustainable yield estimates are generally less than those for the 2004 assessment, although estimates of current biomass levels relative to K increase. The Reference

Near final specifications for the sex- and area-specific Operating Models for testing OMPs for the South Coast rock lobster resource

2008
This document reports results of nine different models for the assessment of the South Coast rock lobster resource and associated fishery at an area-specific level. It is proposed that from these nine models, a smaller set will be selected to form a “Reference Set” to be used as operating models for the testing of alternate management procedures, with ...

Re-tuning of OMP-2008 using updated 2010 operating models for the South Coast rock lobster resource to provide OMP-2010

2010
This document provides detailed specifications for population projections under future possible catch series, and details of the OMP. Based on updated operating models OMP-2008 is re-tuned to attain the same median recovery target of a 20% increase in spawning biomass from 2006 to 2025 as agreed two years previously.
