Palaeoglaciations in the Polar and Subpolar Ural Mountains

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Ural Mountains form a major physiographic boundary between the East European Plain and West Siberia, both repeatedly glaciated during the Pleistocene by the Barents–Kara ice sheet. Although the present‐day topography reflects significant glacial modification, the extent, chronology and interaction of mountain glaciers with the Barents–Kara ice ...

Climatic, biogeographic and ecological factors influence the spatial patterns of odd‐ and even‐year dominance in biennial European butterflies and burnet moths

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
250,000 observations of 7 annual, 11 biennial and 4 flexible lepidoptera species in the Alps and over 150,000 observations of 5 biennial species from Scandinavia were analysed. Maps show distinct patterns of different species that fly predominantly in odd or even years in the researched areas.

Scaling relationships between Haversian canal‐to‐secondary osteon and midshaft femur cortical‐to‐total area in a human autopsy sample

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We report that femoral cortical thickness was strongly and negatively associated with secondary osteon porosity in an Australian autopsy sample, indicating that thicker cortices contained less porous secondary osteons. This allometric relationship held for the whole sample, males and sedentary well‐nourished individuals, but not for females or other ...

STUDY OF SYNANTHROPIC PLANTS OF THE SOUTH URAL

open access: yesInternational Journal of GEOMATE, 2017
The present study aimed to assess the long-term dynamics of the synanthropic vegetation of the road and path network of the Ilmen State Reserve. The analysis of the synanthropic species spread among coenofloras of the elements of the road and path network revealed an increasing synanthropization index in the gradient of the stress factor for all forest
