Triassic Amber of the Southern Alps (Italy)

PALAIOS, 2006
The Heiligkreuz-Santa Croce Formation (also known as Durrenstein Formation, Upper Triassic) in the Dolomites contains one of the most ancient and substantial Triassic amber deposits in the world. The amber is found in sandstones and paleosols. It has an affinity to the conifer family Cheirolepidiaceae, and amber samples from the Julian and Carnic Alps (

The New Zealand Southern Alps Experiment

Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 1996
The Southern Alps Experiment is being mounted to study the influence of New Zealand's Southern Alps on local weather and climate. This paper describes these alpine influences and outlines proposed field and modeling experiments. Experiment goals include understanding and quantifying factors that govern the intensity and spatial distribution of heavy ...

Tertiary extension in the southern Trento Platform, Southern Alps, Italy

Tectonics, 1995
The southern Trento Platform (Southern Alps, NE Italy) was the locus of abundant mafic volcanism associated with Paleogene extensional tectonics. During the Pal eocene and throughout the Eocene, a NNW–SSE trending graben (the Alpone‐Agno Graben (AAG)) developed in the eastern Lessini Mountains.

Thermal modeling of the Southern Alps, New Zealand

pure and applied geophysics, 1996
Finite-element modeling of the thermal regime across the Southern Alps of New Zealand has been carried out along two profiles situated near the Franz Josef and Haast valleys. The modeling involves viscous deformation beneath the Southern Alps, including both uplift and erosion, and crustal/lithospheric thickening, as a result of crustal shortening ...

Eoalpine and mesoalpine tectonics in the Southern Alps

Geologische Rundschau, 1987
According to structural and stratigraphic data, eoalpine and mesoalpine tectonics can be clearly recognized in the Southern Alps and distinguished from the better known neoalpine deformation.

The Southern Alps

2016
New Zealand’s Southern Alps superficially appear especially suited for the investigation of predisposing debris flow controls. The steep topography, extensive regolith reservoirs, and relatively frequent high intensity rainfall events create an ideal environment for debris flow development. Debris flow tracks are common features throughout the Southern

Active tectonics of the eastern Southern Alps

2023
Current tectonic activity in the eastern Southern Alps is driven by the ongoing collision of Adria with Europe at a rate of ca. 2-3 mm/yr. While the South Alpine Front is well-studied, the deformation in the hinterland of the orogenic front is still not well-understood.

Tectonics of the Dolomites (southern alps, northern Italy)

Journal of Structural Geology, 1987
Abstract In post-Variscan times the Dolomites underwent a number of tectonic events, which may be summarized as follows: Permian and Triassic rifting phases broke the area into NS trending basins with different degrees of subsidence. A Middle Triassic transpressive event then deformed the region along a N70°E axis, generating flower structures ...

DIATOM COMMUNITIES OF SPRINGS IN THE SOUTHERN ALPS

Diatom Research, 1998
In the Adamello-Brenta Regional Park (Trentino, Italy), the diatom communities of 30 mountain springs, 15 on crystalline and 15 on carbonate substratum, were studied between 1993 and 1996. Two of them, one from each substratum type, were sampled monthly for a more detailed investigation of seasonal changes in community structure.
