Different Mechanisms for the Northern and Southern Winter Fog Events over Eastern China

open access: yesAtmosphere
Northern and southern fog events are identified over eastern China across 40 winters from 1981 to 2021. By performing composite analysis on these events, this study reveals that the formation of fog events is controlled by both dynamic and thermodynamic ...

The chronology of the 2002-2003 SARS mini pandemic. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was a new human disease in the autumn of 2002. It first occurred in Southern China in November 2002 and was transported to Hong Kong on February 21, 2003 by an infected and ill patient.

Employee motivation, external orientation and technical efficiency of foreign-financed firms in China: a stochastic frontier analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
By using a stochastic frontier model, we have identified several firm-specific attributes as determinants of technical efficiency in foreign-financed manufacturing firms in southern China.

Hydrogen‐Bond‐Rich Supramolecular Multiblock Copolymers Facilitate Rapid Zn2+ Migration in Quasi‐Solid‐State Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The disordered growth of dendrites, corrosion, parasitic side reactions, slow de‐solvation kinetics, and inherent safety risks significantly hinder the practical deployment of conventional liquid electrolyte zinc‐ion batteries. In contrast, the novel PU‐EG+DMPA‐Zn polyurethane quasi‐solid‐state electrolyte, enriched with abundant polar functional ...

Genetic control and geo-climate adaptation of pod dehiscence provide novel insights into the soybean domestication and expansion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Loss of pod dehiscence is a key step during soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] domestication. Genome-wide association analysis for soybean shattering identified loci harboring Pdh1, NST1A and SHAT1-5.

Upconversion Nanoparticles Embedded Photonic Contact Lens for Transepithelial Corneal Crosslinking Using Hyaluronate – Riboflavin Conjugate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A minimally invasive, transepithelial corneal cross‐linking (TE‐CXL) approach is presented using upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs)‐loaded contact lenses (UCLs), after topical delivery of hyaluronate–riboflavin conjugates. The NIR‐to‐UV/blue light conversion by UCNPs in a UCL can activate riboflavin for TE‐CXL, resulting in the biomechanical strength ...

Rapid retreat of the East Asian summer monsoon in the in the middle Holocene and a millennial weak monsoon interval at 9 ka in northern China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Knowledge of hydroclimatic dynamics in the East Asian monsoon region during the Holocene was hindered by few absolutely-dated and decadally-resolved proxy records in northern China.

Electrochemical Formation of BiVO4/BiPO4 Photoanodes for Enhanced Selectivity toward H2O2 Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In acidic KPi, V dissolves from the BiVO4 lattice, while adsorbed phosphate reacts with the electrode under an external bias, forming a BiPO4 surface layer. This BiPO4 layer exhibits stronger bicarbonate adsorption, redirecting the water oxidation pathway toward two‐electron H2O2 production.
