Several Notes on Engraved Gems from Southern Pannonia

Engraved gems from Eastern Pannonia are well known thanks to the scholarly work of professor Tamás Gesztelyi on the gems from Brigetio, Acquincum, Intercissa and Gorsium. Carnuntum in Western Pannonia yielded more than 1300 engraved gems, thus outnumbering all other findspots in the Province.

Dysdera parthenogenetica sp. nov. (Araneae, Dysderidae): A Unique Case of Parthenogenesis in Spiders

We studied the parthenogenetic lineages of the spider Dysdera hungarica (Araneae: Dysderidae). Based on our data, we consider them to constitute a separate taxon, Dysdera parthenogenetica sp. nov. Morphologically, the new species differs mainly by slightly reduced female copulatory organs.

Abstract Lynx remains are rare in archaeological assemblages. The skeleton of an adult male accompanied by four dogs was found in a large Migration Period pit at Zamárdi–Kútvölgyi‐dűlő II, Hungary. Extant lynx skeletons were used in estimating the shoulder height of this individual.
