Public debt, sovereign default risk and shadow economy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Financial Stability, 2013
This paper analyzes the interactions between government's indebtedness, sovereign default risk and the size of the informal sector. We test an underlying theory that suggests that in societies with limited tax enforcement, the presence of informality constrains the set of pledgeable fiscal policy alternatives, increases public debt and the implied ...

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2020

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Banking Regulation with Risk of Sovereign Default

open access: yesWorking paper (Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia), 2019
Banking regulation routinely designates some assets as safe and thus does not require banks to hold any additional capital to protect against losses from these assets. Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Climate and sovereign default risk

open access: yesEconomics Letters
Does climate risk necessarily raise sovereign default risk? While a growing literature documents adverse effects from realized disasters, the implications of long-term (chronic) climate risk remain unclear. Using an endogenous default model with climate shocks, we isolate chronic physical risk from acute disaster realizations.

Evaluating GenAI‐produced feedback on undergraduate bioscience essays against good higher education feedback practice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This pilot study investigates the potential of Generative AI to provide formative feedback to students. ChatGPT was prompted to provide feedback on Year 1 Bioscience essays, which were evaluated against established good feedback practices. GenAI‐authored feedback had useful elements, but was limited in scope. GenAI may have potential to provide instant,

News and Sovereign Default Risk in Small Open Economies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Finance Discussion Papers, 2010
This paper builds a model of sovereign debt in which default risk, interest rates, and debt depend not only on current fundamentals but also on news about future fundamentals. News shocks affect equilibrium outcomes because they contain information about the future ability of the government to repay its debt.

Self‐Regulated Learning Meets AI: Reinterpreting Self‐Regulation, Co‐Regulation, and Socially Shared Regulation in Human–AI Interaction

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advancing artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed learning and work, yet higher education and professional development programs have not systematically equipped learners for AI‐prevalent environments. This lack of preparation creates uncertainty regarding control, responsibility, trust, and accountability.
