The effect of weather conditions, soil type and sowing density on the productivity of maize [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Sciences (Belgrade)
High maize yields can only be achieved on fertile, loose and well-permeable soils. Previous research indicates that novel maize hybrids respond favorably to higher crop density.

Natural Variation of NAR5 Determines Nitrogenase Activity and the Yield in Soybean

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identified NAR5, a gene encoding a subtilisin‐like protease, that regulates nitrogenase activity in soybean nodules. Overexpressing NAR5 delayed nodule senescence, enhancing nitrogenase activity, yield, and low‐nitrogen tolerance. The elite haplotype NAR5HapI‐1 linked to superior nitrogenase activity and greater seed weight has been ...

Seed Germination and Seedling Production of Physalis peruviana Using Different Substrates and Growing Containers

open access: yesCrops
The cultivation of Physalis peruviana has emerged as a promising alternative for small- and medium-sized producers due to its high added value and low production cost.

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Boron deficiency responses in maize (Zea mays L.) roots

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Background Boron (B) is an essential micronutrient for plants. Dicot plants respond to insufficient B supply by altering root architecture and root hair growth. How root systems of rather low‐B demanding monocot species such as maize (Zea mays L.) respond to B deficiency in terra has not been experimentally resolved, yet.

Avaliação física, química e fitoquímica de frutos de Physalis, ao longo do período de colheita Physical, chemical and phytochemical assessment of Physalis fruits over the harvest period

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Engineering of Crystal and Domain Structures in Epitaxial Y:HfO2 Thin Films by YSZ Substrate Miscut

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We investigate how YSZ substrate miscut influences crystal structure and domain formation in epitaxial Y‐doped HfO2 thin films. Using magnetron sputtering, high‐resolution X‐ray diffraction, atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, and first‐principles calculations, we systematically examine the characteristics of thickness‐ and ...

The Response of Spring Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) to Climate Change in Northern Serbia

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
The present study assessed the effect of projected climate change on the sowing time, onset, and duration of flowering, the duration of the growing season, and the grain yield of spring barley in Northern Serbia.
