Extrusion Pretreatment and Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Soybean Hulls

Bioenergy Engineering, 11-14 October 2009, Bellevue, Washington, 2009
Soybean hull is a major by-product of soybean processing industry and constitutes about 8% of the whole seed. Soy hulls typically contain 52% (w/w) cellulose and 8-10% (w/w) water, the remaining 38-40% (w/w) being comprised of hemicellulose, lignin, proteins, salts and minerals.

Evaluation of Soybean Hulls in Grower Turkey Diets

International Journal of Agriculture and Rural Development, 2011
A 42 day study was carried out to evaluate the effect of soybean hulls (SBH) in diets of grower turkeys. Four experimental turkey grower diets were formulated such that soybean hulls made up of 0.0 (control diet), 10.0, 20.0 and 30.0% of the diets respectively replacing maize and soybean meal.

Fermentation of soybean hulls to ethanol while preserving protein value

Bioresource Technology, 2009
Soybean hulls were evaluated as a resource for production of ethanol by the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) process, and no pretreatment of the hulls was found to be needed to realize high ethanol yields with Saccharomyces cerevisiae D(5)A.

Purification and characterization of major inhalant allergens from soybean hulls

Clinical & Experimental Allergy, 1992
SummaryProteins responsible for respiratory allergy to soybean have been purified from an extract of soybean hulls. The purification procedure combined size exclusion and reverse‐phase HPLC. Two pure glycoproteins (S1 and S2) exhibiting IgE‐binding ability, as demonstrated by immunoblotting and ELISA techniques, were obtained.

A simple preparation method of crystals of soybean hull peroxidase

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2007
Soybean hull peroxidase (SHP) was crystallised from an enzyme solution with low purity by a simple method. The enzyme solution was purified by cooperation salting out of acetone and ammonium sulphate, and lumpy crystals were obtained with the size of about 40 x 30 mum when ammonium sulphate was quickly added to the enzyme solution.

The art of soybean meal and hull grinding

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1981
AbstractGrinding soybean meal and hulls may be considered an art—rather than a pure science—because of the need to blend properly all of the parameters involved to produce the desired finished product. Grinding soymeal for a protein supplement to animal feed is best achieved by using a side‐fed mill, with plenty of air throughput and a large screen ...

Investigation of biocatalytic properties of soybean seed hull peroxidase

Catalysis Today, 2001
Soybean seed hull peroxidase (SBP) is an inexpensive oxidoreductive enzyme and could potentially be used to oxidise/polymerise various organic pollutants present in the industrial and petrochemical wastes. SBP is able to retain its catalytic properties under wide ranges of pH and at elevated temperatures.

Soybean hulls as a dietary fiber source for dogs.

Journal of Animal Science, 1999
In Exp. 1, soybean hull samples were obtained from nine sources across the United States and analyzed for nutrient content to determine their suitability for inclusion in dog diets. Compositional data revealed variation in both the amount of total dietary fiber (TDF; 63.8 to 81.2%) in the soybean hulls and the ratio of insoluble:soluble fiber (5.0:1 to
