Propagation Effects in Space-Based Surveillance Systems

1982
Abstract : This report describes the first year's effort to investigate propagation effects in space-based radars. A model was developed for analyzing the deleterious systems effects by first developing a generalized aperture distribution that ultimately can be applied to any space-based radar configuration. The propagation effects are characterized in

System and technology considerations for space-based air traffic surveillance

2nd Aerospace Maintenance Conference, 1986
This paper describes the system trade-offs examined in a recent study of space-based air traffic surveillance. Three system options, each satisfying a set of different constraints, were considered. The main difference in the technology needed to implement the three systems was determined to be the size of the spacecraft antenna aperture.

Feasibility of performing space surveillance tasks with a proposed space-based optical architecture

Advances in Space Research, 2011
Abstract Under ESA contract an industrial consortium including Aboa Space Research Oy (ASRO), the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern (AIUB), and the Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), proposed the observation concept, developed a suitable sensor architecture, and assessed the performance of a space-based optical (SBO) telescope ...

Optimal color space based probabilistic foreground detector for video surveillance systems

2017 IEEE 26th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2017
Foreground detection is one of the well and widely studied research topic in the field of computer vision. However, it still fails to cope with the many practical issues such as illumination changes, dynamic backgrounds, and shadow. This paper proposes optimal color space based probabilistic foreground detector.

Analysis of orbit determination for space based optical space surveillance system

Advances in Space Research, 2015
Abstract The detection capability and orbit determination performance of a space based optical observation system exploiting the visible band is analyzed. The sensor characteristics, in terms of sensitivity and resolution are those typical of present state of the art star trackers.

Advanced cryogenic technology for space based infrared surveillance and stored cryogens

2001 IEEE Aerospace Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.01TH8542), 2002
Current space cryocooler developments have achieved performance and capability that have made the use of active refrigeration in space missions feasible. Space flight demonstrations baselined and implemented active refrigeration to achieve mission goals.
