Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Nighttime Atomic Hydrogen Abundance Retrieved From SCIAMACHY Hydroxyl Airglow Measurements in the Mesopause Region

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Atomic hydrogen (H) is crucial for understanding photochemistry and the energy budget in the mesopause region. However, there is still no consensus on the H abundance in this region.

Kelvin–Helmholtz vortices in the magnetopause boundary layer associated with auroral beads: conjunction observations from MMS and DMSP

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
We report a Kelvin–Helmholtz vortex (KHV) event observed at the duskside magnetopause boundary layer by the magnetospheric multiscale (MMS) satellites in conjunction with auroral beads detected in the high-latitude ionosphere by the Defense ...

Evaluating the potential health benefits of a large-scale investment in green space infrastructure within a diabetes 'hotspot' in western Sydney, Australia

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Natural experiments wherein the amount, type and/or quality of green space are modified and then evaluated within the context of health outcomes will help to enhance the quality of evidence for policymakers.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Two‐Dimensional Motions of Diffuse Auroral Patches Under Upstream Dynamic Pressure Enhancements of the Bow Shock

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
In this study, we identified 51 dayside diffuse auroral patches and examined their two‐dimensional evolutions by using the Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms probes and the ground‐based all‐sky imager at the South Pole ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Convergent Heavy-ion Plume from the Martian Ionosphere

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Ion escape is a key consequence of the solar wind interaction with Mars, yet the three-dimensional structure of the heavy-ion plume, a major escape channel, remains poorly constrained.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...
