Catalyzing urea hydrolysis using two-step microbial-induced carbonate precipitation for copper immobilization: Perspective of pH regulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Microbial induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) has recently applied to immobilize heavy metals toward preventing their threats to public health and sustainable development of surrounding environments.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Effects of Bacterial Culture and Calcium Source Addition on Lead and Copper Remediation Using Bioinspired Calcium Carbonate Precipitation

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Lead and copper ions from wastewater induced by metallurgical processes are accumulated in soils, threatening plant and human health. The bioinspired calcium carbonate precipitation is proven effective in improving the cementation between soil particles.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Space-Time and Architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Architects have a role to play in interplanetary space that has barely yet been explored. The architectural community is largely unaware of this new territory, for which there is still no agreed method of practice.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Analytical computation of support characteristic curve for circumferential yielding lining in tunnel design

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2022
Circumferential yielding lining is able to tolerate controlled displacements without failure, which has been proven to be an effective solution to large deformation problem in squeezing tunnels.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Allées in Landscape Architecture and Garden Art—Types, Preservation, and Renewal of the Living Heritage of Baroque Allées in Hungary

open access: yesLand, 2020
Examining the history of garden art since ancient times, we find many examples of linear tree layouts supporting orientation or being used for the purpose of composition.

Rendering Spaces for Architectural Environments

open access: yesPresence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, 1995
We present a new framework for rendering virtual environments. This framework is proposed as a complete scene description, which embodies the space of all possible renderings, under all possible lighting scenarios of the given scene. In effect, this hypothetical rendering space includes all possible light sources as part of the geometric model.
