Landscape-based fire scenarios and fire types in the Ayllón massif (Central Mountain Range, Spain), 19th and 20th centuries

open access: yesCuadernos de Investigación Geográfica, 2020
Wildfires have been a major landscape disturbance factor throughout history in inland mountain areas of Spain. This paper aims to understand the interaction of fire regimes and landscape dynamics during the last two centuries within a socio-spatial ...

Biophysical analysis of angiotensin II and amyloid‐β cross‐interaction in aggregation and membrane disruption

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Angiotensin II (AngII), a neuropeptide, interacts with amyloid‐β (Aβ), a key player in Alzheimer's disease. This study reveals that AngII reduces Aβ aggregation and membrane disruption in vitro. Biophysical assays and molecular modeling suggest AngII binds disordered Aβ forms, potentially modulating early amyloidogenic events and contributing to ...

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...

Taxonomical identity of Sarcocornia fruticosa and S. hispanica in the Iberian Peninsula

open access: yesAnales del Jardín Botánico de Madrid, 2014
The recent description of Sarcocornia hispanica, from SE Iberian Peninsula evidences the notable morphological complexity of this genus. This species is quite close to S. fruticosa, as they both show an erect habit and lack of rooting stems.

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...
