New method for determination of temperature in spallation reactions [PDF]
We propose a new method for determination of temperature in spallation events. It is shown that temperature can be determined by applying the friction model of energy dissipation in participant-spectator model of a spallation process.

Laser Driven Compression to Investigate Shock-Induced Melting of Metals
High pressure shock compression induces a large temperature increase due to the dissipation within the shock front. Hence, a solid sample subjected to intense shock loading can melt, partially or fully, either on compression or upon release from the ...

Experimental study of the thermal reaming of the borehole by axial plasmatron [PDF]
Purpose. To study rock spallation dynamics in the process of the borehole thermal reaming and analyze energy consumption of the borehole thermal reaming process by plasma jets of the axial plasmatron. Methods. Field experimental study of rock spallation

Left-right loading dependence of shock response of (111)//(112) Cu bicrystals: Deformation and spallation [PDF]
We investigate with molecular dynamics the dynamic response of Cu bicrystals with a special asymmetric grain boundary (GB), (111)//(112)〈110〉, and its dependence on the loading directions. Shock loading is applied along the GB normal either from the left

What can we really learn from positron flux 'anomalies'? [PDF]
We present a critical analysis of the observational constraints on, and of the theoretical modeling of, aspects of cosmic ray (CR) generation and propagation in the Galaxy, which are relevant for the interpretation of recent positron and anti-proton ...
