Spanning the gap between software engineering instructor and student

2008 38th Annual Frontiers in Education Conference, 2008
Many computing degrees have a project-based software engineering course where teams of students complete a project under the guidance of the instructor and possibly one or more teaching assistants (TAs). However many instructors are unsure as to how well course objectives for these project-based courses are being met and more importantly, how best to ...

Traffic Engineering of Telecommunication Networks Based on Multiple Spanning Tree Routing

2009
This paper focuses on tra±c engineering of telecommunica- tion networks, which arises in the context of switched Ethernet networks. It addresses the minimization of the maximum network link load. With the IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol, it is possible to de¯ne multiple routing spanning trees to provide multiple alternatives to route VLAN ...

Approach-Span Failure of the Hoan Bridge as a Case Study for Engineering Students and Practicing Engineers

Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 2014
On the morning of December 13, 2000, all three steel girders in a three-girder approach span of the Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, fractured. Two of the three girders had a fracture propagate completely through the 3.05-m-deep girders. The bridge was adequately designed and fabricated according to existing code specifications.

The Influence of Culture Value of Civil Engineering Projects on Their Life-Span

2021
Civil engineering projects play a very important role in human’s life. They provide material basis for human’s life, promote economic development, and, carry on culture and history. However, the last culture function is often ignored by people. Therefore, short-sighted behaviors on the engineering projects often happen in China.

Design of Multiple Spanning Trees for Traffic Engineering in Metro Ethernet

2006 International Conference on Communication Technology, 2006
Ethernet has grown from its roots in the home and office environment to contend in previously uncharted territory of MANs and WANs. However, deploying Ethernet in MAN requires considerable upgrades. In this paper, we focus on the traffic engineering problem based on the construction of multiple spanning trees, which is significantly impacted by the ...

Engineering demand functions for RC medium length span bridges

Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering, 2014
The evolution of the seismic design philosophies and the strong correlation of some structural demands with damage, motivate the research community to improve the knowledge about the pier demands in bridges. The seismic demands can be determined by conducting non-linear time history analyses, however, the computational time required can be excessive ...

Interface Engineering Endowing High Reversibility of SPAN Cathode and Mg Metal Anode for Mg‐SPAN Batteries

Advanced Functional Materials
Abstract Magnesium–sulfur (Mg–S) batteries have garnered considerable attention due to their high energy density, dendrite free, and low cost. However, the sluggish interfacial kinetics of the Mg anode and the polysulfide shuttling effect of the sulfur cathode severely impede their practical implementation. Herein,

A practical engineering method for the flutter analysis of long span bridges

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1998
Abstract This paper presents a practical method for the determination of the onset of wind induced Flutter instabilities for long span bridges. The method is illustrated by presenting the results of analyses performed on suspension bridge structures subjected to aerodynamic loading.
