Trellis decoding complexity of linear block codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
In this partially tutorial paper, we examine minimal trellis representations of linear block codes and analyze several measures of trellis complexity: maximum state and edge dimensions, total span length, and total vertices, edges and mergers.

Biometric differentiation of growth traits in pullet breeds in Southwest Nigeria

open access: yesAgricultura Tropica et Subtropica, 2023
The study aimed to characterise three breeds of pullets based on their biometric differentiation and the effects of age on their body linear measurement.

On the total length of the random minimal directed spanning tree [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Probability, 2006
In Bhatt and Roy's minimal directed spanning tree construction for a random, partially ordered set of points in the unit square, all edges must respect the ‘coordinatewise’ partial order and there must be a directed path from each vertex to a minimal element. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the total length of this graph with power-weighted edges.

(Co)variance components and genetics parameter estimation for linear traits in Holstein cattle in Indonesia: traits related to foot/leg and udder [PDF]

open access: yesArchives Animal Breeding, 2018
The availability of (co)variance components and genetics parameter estimates for traits included in a selection program is crucial since the estimated breeding values of the selected traits are computed based on the available (co)variance components and ...

Manual discrimination and identification of length by the finger-span method [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 1989
Experiments were conducted on length resolution for objects held between the thumb and fore-finger. The just noticeable difference in length measured in discrimination experiments is roughly 1 mm for reference lengths of 10 to 20 mm. It increases monotonically with reference length but violates Weber's law.

Temperature during pupal development affects hoverfly developmental time, adult life span, and wing length

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2023
Hoverflies (Diptera, Syrphidae) are cosmopolitan, generalist flower visitors and among the most important pollinators after bees and bumblebees. The dronefly Eristalis tenax can be found in temperate and continental climates across the globe, often ...

Chain motion and viscoelasticity in highly entangled solutions of semiflexible rods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Brownian dynamics simulations are used to study highly entangled solutions of semiflexible polymers. Bending fluctuations of semiflexible rods are signficantly affected by entanglement only above a concentration $c^{**}$, where $c^{**}\sim 10^{3}L^{-3 ...

The effect of span length and girder type on bridge costs

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
Bridges have an important role in impacting the civilization, growth and economy of cities from ancient time until these days due to their function in reducing transportation cost and time. Therefore, development of bridges has been a knowledge domain in

On 2-power unicyclic cubic graphs

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Graph Theory and Applications, 2022
In a graph, a cycle whose length is a power of two (that is, 2k) is called a 2-power cycle. In this paper, we show that the existence of an infinite family of cubic graphs which contain only one cycle whose length is a power of 2.
