Relation Classification as Two-way Span-Prediction

open access: yes, 2020
The current supervised relation classification (RC) task uses a single embedding to represent the relation between a pair of entities. We argue that a better approach is to treat the RC task as span-prediction (SP) problem, similar to Question answering (QA).

Prediction Along a Developmental Perspective in Psychiatry: How Far Might We Go?

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2021
Most mental disorders originate in childhood, and once symptoms present, a variety of psychosocial and cognitive maladjustments may arise. Although early childhood problems are generally associated with later mental health impairments and psychopathology,

Development of Korean Air Quality Prediction System version 1 (KAQPS v1) with focuses on practical issues [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2020
For the purpose of providing reliable and robust air quality predictions, an air quality prediction system was developed for the main air quality criteria species in South Korea (PM10, PM2.5, CO, O3 and SO2).

Predicting the orientation of eukaryotic membrane-spanning proteins. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1989
We have developed a rule to predict the orientation of the first internal signal-anchor sequence in eukaryotic transmembrane proteins synthesized on the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The difference in the charges of the 15 residues flanking the first internal signal-anchor determines its orientation, with the more positive portion facing the cytosol. In

Coreference Resolution as Query-based Span Prediction

open access: yes, 2019
In this paper, we present an accurate and extensible approach for the coreference resolution task. We formulate the problem as a span prediction task, like in machine reading comprehension (MRC): A query is generated for each candidate mention using its surrounding context, and a span prediction module is employed to extract the text spans of the ...

Predicting ice supersaturation for contrail avoidance: ensemble forecasting using ICON with two-moment ice microphysics [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Persistent contrails and contrail-induced cirrus clouds are considered the most significant non-CO2 contributors to aviation's climate impact. These clouds primarily form in ice-supersaturated regions (ISSRs), defined by relative humidity over ice (RHice)

Deep temporal convolutional networks for F10.7 radiation flux short-term forecasting [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae
F10.7, the solar flux at a wavelength of 10.7 cm (F10.7), is often used as an important parameter input in various space weather models and is also a key parameter for measuring the strength of solar activity levels.

How long is a piece of loop? [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2013
Loops are irregular structures which connect two secondary structure elements in proteins. They often play important roles in function, including enzyme reactions and ligand binding. Despite their importance, their structure remains difficult to predict.
