Alternative Fuels for Spark Ignition Engines [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Fuels & Energy Science Journal, 2009
In order to reduce the atmospheric pollution emitted by automobiles, control devices are being incorporated in the vehicles in many countries. This has resulted in a reduced vehicle mileage to the extent of about fifteen percent. With- out the introduction of new technology, any further reduction in emission levels would be expected to extract payment ...

Challenges and enablers in fluidization technology

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Gas–solid fluidized beds provide excellent heat and mass transfer for high‐throughput operations from coating to catalytic conversion and underpin emerging low‐carbon technologies. Yet industrial reliability, scale‐up, and control lag scientific understanding, particularly as finer, stickier, and more variable feedstocks increasingly challenge

Bayesian Optimization Guiding the Experimental Mapping of the Pareto Front of Mechanical and Flame‐Retardant Properties in Polyamide Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Bayesian optimization enabled the design of PA56 system with just 8 wt% additives, achieving limiting oxygen index 30.5%, tensile strength 80.9 MPa, and UL‐94 V‐0 rating. Without prior knowledge, the algorithm uncovered synergistic effects between aluminum diethyl‐phosphinate and nanoclay.

Inferring rheumatoid arthritis disease activity status from the electronic health records across health systems

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective Disease activity plays a central role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) clinical studies. The inconsistent availability of data on disease activity in real‐world electronic health records (EHR) data has limited the ability to generate real‐world evidence (RWE). This study aimed to develop and validate scalable machine learning (ML) models to infer

Life cycle assessment of biodiesel synthesis from waste cooking oil using bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The development of renewable energy sources is important in order to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Waste cooking oil (WCO) is a promising feedstock for biodiesel production through transesterification. Heterogeneous bifunctional catalysts offer a sustainable alternative to conventional homogeneous bases such ...

A Two-Zone Combustion Model for Knocking Prediction of Marine Natural Gas SI Engines

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
The further thermal efficiency improvement of marine natural gas engine is constrained by a knocking phenomenon that commonly occurs in gas-fueled spark-ignited engines. It plays an important role to investigate how the knocking occurs and how to predict
