Monolithic Desktop Digital Fabrication of Autonomous Walking Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A soft, monolithic, air‐powered walking robot is designed for autonomous operation. Fabricated in a single step using a desktop (FFF) fused filament fabrication 3D printer, the robot requires no manual postassembly and becomes immediately operational with a constant‐pressure air supply.

Preliminary results of turbojet-engine altitude-starting investigation [PDF]

open access: yes
A spark energy of 2.13 joules per spark at 1 spark per second produced ignition to an altitude of 50,000 feet at a flight Mach number of 0.6. The minimum power requirements for ignition were obtained from a combination of low spark repetition rates and ...

Grass functional traits reflect the long history of fire and grazers in the savannas of Texas

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Understanding relationships among grass traits, fire, and herbivores may help improve conservation strategies for savannas that are threatened by novel disturbance regimes. Emerging theory, developed in Africa, emphasizes that functional traits of savanna grasses reflect the distinct ways that fire and grazers consume biomass ...

Laser induced spark ignition of methane-oxygen mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes
Results from an experimental study of laser induced spark ignition of methane-oxygen mixtures are presented. The experiments were conducted at atmospheric pressure and 296 K under laminar pre-mixed and turbulent-incompletely mixed conditions.

Navigating the Institutional Review Board and other institutional entities: An ode to aspiring YPAR scholars

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, Volume 75, Issue 1-2, Page 102-116, March 2025.
Abstract Youth‐led participatory action research (YPAR) engages young people as partners in rigorous research inquiry to guide and inform collective action. Scholars interested in YPAR have notable investment in social justice and activist values, which at times come in direct tensions within their doctoral training and/or professional roles within ...
