Publisher Summary This chapter discusses insulators for spark plugs, which were produced originally by hand at a rate of 3000 cylindrical blanks per day. A modern spark plug is approximately 90% Al2O3 with SiO2, CaO, and MgO. Magnesium oxide is present as a grain growth inhibitor, and CaO and SiO2 act as fluxes.
