FAIR and Interactive Data Graphics from a Scientific Knowledge Graph
Graph databases capture richly linked domain knowledge by integrating heterogeneous data and metadata into a unified representation. Here, we present the use of bespoke, interactive data graphics (bar charts, scatter plots, etc.) for visual exploration ...

Heuristics-based Query Reordering for Federated Queries in SPARQL 1.1 and SPARQL-LD [PDF]
The federated query extension of SPARQL 1.1 allows executing queries distributed over different SPARQL endpoints. SPARQL-LD is a recent extension of SPARQL 1.1 which enables to directly query any HTTP web source containing RDF data, like web pages embedded with RDFa, JSON-LD or Microformats, without requiring the declaration of named graphs. This makes

Efficient Execution of SPARQL Queries with OPTIONAL and UNION Expressions [PDF]
The proliferation of RDF datasets has resulted in studies focusing on optimizing SPARQL query processing. Most existing work focuses on basic graph patterns (BGPs) and ignores other vital operators in SPARQL, such as UNION and OPTIONAL. SPARQL queries with these operators, which we abbreviate as SPARQL-UO, pose serious query plan generation challenges.

Ontologies for FAIR Data in Additive Manufacturing: A Use Case‐Based Evaluation
An ontology‐based approach for generating findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable data in additive manufacturing is explored, focusing on powder bed fusion. The article highlights the benefits of enhanced data findability and digital twin enablement, while addressing challenges like data integration complexity and the need for specialized ...

This article provides examples of ontology development in the materials science domain (use‐case of Brinell hardness testing) and gives ontology developers an overview for selecting their desired top‐level ontologies (e.g., BFO, EMMO, PROVO) by considering different evaluation parameters like semantic richness, domain coverage, extensibility ...

Ontology‐Based Digital Infrastructure for Data‐Driven Glass Development
This work addresses the inefficiencies in traditional glass development by implementing an ontology‐based digital infrastructure coupled with a high‐throughput robotic melting system. The approach integrates machine learning models, predictive tools, and a semantic database.

Operational Semantics for SPARQL Update [PDF]
Concurrent fine grained updates are essential for using RDF stores in dynamic modern Web applications, where users increasingly contribute content as often as they read content. SPARQL Update is a language proposed by the W3C for fine grained updates for RDF stores.

Foundations of SPARQL Query Optimization [PDF]
The SPARQL query language is a recent W3C standard for processing RDF data, a format that has been developed to encode information in a machine-readable way. We investigate the foundations of SPARQL query optimization and (a) provide novel complexity results for the SPARQL evaluation problem, showing that the main source of complexity is operator ...

SpEnD: Linked Data SPARQL Endpoints Discovery Using Search Engines [PDF]
In this study, a novel metacrawling method is proposed for discovering and monitoring linked data sources on the Web. We implemented the method in a prototype system, named SPARQL Endpoints Discovery (SpEnD). SpEnD starts with a "search keyword" discovery process for finding relevant keywords for the linked data domain and specifically SPARQL endpoints.
