EFFECTS OF PHOTOPERIODS ON THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE, FEED INTAKE AND FEED EFFICIENCY OF GILTHEAD SEA BREAM (Sparus aurata) JUVENILES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Animal and Poultry Production, 2009
In this study, gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) juveniles weighting 16.3 ± 0.3 g were reared at a density of 40 fish per 200-L fiberglass tanks for 42 days.

Enriched environments enhance cognition, exploratory behaviour and brain physiological functions of Sparus aurata

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Environmental enrichment is considered as a recommended tool to guarantee or improve the welfare of captive fish. This study demonstrates for the first time that structural environmental enrichment enhances cognition, exploratory behaviour and brain ...

Characterization of drug metabolizing enzymes and assessment of aging in the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) liver

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2010
Organic anthropogenic compounds such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, nitroaromatics, dioxins, various pesticides and natural compounds can enter the aquatic environment. These lipophilic compounds are readily taken up into

Retrograde Positive Contrast Urethrocystography of the Fish Urogenital System

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
The radiological differences between the urinary tract of  Dicentrarchus labrax, Sparus aurata, Tinca tinca, and Cyprinus carpio are shown. In fresh water teleosts the urinary bladder is sigmoid and a short urethra leads to the urinary pore.

SHELF –LIFE OF SEA BREAM (SPARUS AURATA) PACKAGED IN MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE: RELATIONSHIPs BETWEEN SENSORY AND MICROBIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS

open access: yesItalian Journal of Food Safety, 2013
The research evaluates sensorial and microbiological parameters of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) during storage in MAP. Fish samples, obtained from three off-shore breedings located in Messina, Pisa and Sassari, were analyzed after 1, 5, 8, 12, 15 ...

Identification of Transthyretin in Fish (Sparus aurata): cDNA Cloning and Characterisation [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 1999
Transthyretin (TTR) has been proposed to have first evolved in reptiles and is one of the three plasma proteins important in the transport of thyroid hormones in higher vertebrates. A full-length cDNA encoding TTR was isolated from a sea bream (Sparus aurata) liver cDNA library using a homologous TTR cDNA probe generated by RT-PCR.

First Record Sparus aurata Larvae in Teluk Penyu Beach Cilacap, Indonesia, revealed by DNA Barcoding

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan, 2023
Morphological identification often fails to reveal the taxonomic status of fish larvae. DNA barcoding using particular DNA segment is frequently successful in solving the faulty and might reveal overlooked species, including species outside their ...

Oxidative stress in tissues of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) and European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) juveniles exposed to ultraviolet-B radiation

open access: yesJournal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2021
Ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), which damage DNA, proteins, and lipids in aquatic organisms, including fish. This study evaluated UVB-induced oxidative stress in several tissues of two marine teleosts, gilthead ...

A small-scale fishery near a rocky littoral marine reserve in the northwestern Mediterranean (Medes Islands) after two decades of fishing prohibition

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2012
Fishing in the Medes Islands Marine Reserve (511 ha, including a no-take zone and a buffer area) was prohibited in 1983. This study is the result of a 2.5-year monitoring program (sampling on board fishing boats from June 2003 to December 2005) aimed at ...
