Cryopreservation of seabream (Sparus aurata) semen and fertility
In this study, the aim was to reveal spermatological parameters of seabream (Sparus aurata), freezing ability of semen in different extenders, and fertilization capacity of frozen seabream semen. The study was conducted with 10 male and 6 female brooder seabreams. Female fish were synchronized by photoperiod and water temperature in the breeding season.

Nutritional regulation of glucose-6-phosphatase gene expression in liver of the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) [PDF]
To examine the role of glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase) in glucose homeostasis in the diabeteslike experimental model of carnivorous fish, we analysed postprandial variations and the effect of starvation, ration size and diet composition on the regulation ...

Benthic megafauna and the functioning of macroalgal forests and urchin barrens
Two temperate rocky reef food‐web models, representing the trophic diversity of the Mediterranean rocky reef communities, were built for the two stable states: macroalgal forests and barren grounds, which are characterized by opposite amounts of erect macroalgal biomass.

A 3D quantitative method for analyzing bone mineral densities : a case study on skeletal deformities in the gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata (Linnaeus, 1758) [PDF]
Skeletal deformities, one of the major threats for aquaculture, have been studied extensively. These include opercular malformations in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), a key fish species for Mediterranean aquaculture.

ABSTRACT Anthropogenic activities generate a significant amount of pollutants that are released into the environment, causing physiological and ecological disturbances. Among the xenobiotics present in aquatic ecosystems, numerous chemical and organic compounds have oxidative potential or are metabolized through oxidative processes, which may amplify ...
