Joint Spatial Division and Multiplexing—The Large-Scale Array Regime

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2013
We propose joint spatial division and multiplexing (JSDM), an approach to multiuser MIMO downlink that exploits the structure of the correlation of the channel vectors in order to allow for a large number of antennas at the base station while requiring reduced-dimensional channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT).

Laser communication data storage using angle multiplexing and spatial division multiplexing

Free-Space Laser Communications XXXIII, 2021
The need for data storage is rising exponentially – 90% of the world’s data has been created in the last two years and almost 5% of the world’s electricity consumption is currently devoted to storing this massive amount of data. LyteLoop is developing a disruptive alternative to data storage technology using optical communications to store data in ...

Spatial division multiplexing

Proceedings of the 3rd IEEE/ACM/IFIP international conference on Hardware/software codesign and system synthesis, 2005
To ensure low power consumption while maintaining flexibility and performance, future Systems-on-Chip (SoC) will combine several types of processor cores and data memory units of widely different sizes. To interconnect the IPs of these heterogeneous platforms, Networks-on-Chip (NoC) have been proposed as an efficient and scalable alternative to shared ...

Orbital Angular Momentum Spatial Division Multiplexing

2021 Photonics North (PN), 2021
Numerical simulations for generating and transmitting four Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) modes over 100m of multimode fiber are conducted. Each LG mode is modulated using 10Gbps NRZ signal. Bit error rate (BER) and Q-factor performance metrics showed acceptable system performance as the worst mode has Q-factor of 9.1 and BER of 2.5E-20.

Spatial-division-multiplexing addressed fiber laser hydrophone array

Optics Letters, 2013
The fiber laser hydrophone is compact, and it is easy to construct an array by using the multiplexing technique. However, the number of hydrophones multiplexed in the array through wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) technology is limited. In order to expand the array, a spatial division multiplexing (SDM) method for addressing a fiber laser ...

Computer Generated Hologram in Spatial Division Multiplexing

Frontiers in Optics 2015, 2015
We report here on generic space-division multiplexing and demultiplexing units for high-throughput transmission in multimode fibers, with the aid of computer generated hologram spatial filters.

Spatial Division Multiplexing

2017
Spatial division multiplexing (SDM) by employing few-mode fiber or multi-core fiber is expected to efficiently enhance the capacity of optical networks and overcome the anticipated ‘capacity crunch’ due to fast increasing capacity demand. This chapter first introduces the advantages and state-of-the-art of SDM.

Spatial division multiplexing of space-time block codes

International Conference on Communication Technology Proceedings, 2003. ICCT 2003., 2004
In this paper we propose to derive benefit from multiple antennas to achieve high data rates using a spatial division multiplexing (SDM) based scheme combined with space-time block coding (STBC). This scheme allows to transmit simultaneously N/P different streams from N antennas, each stream being encoded using a STBC designed for P outputs.

Modulation and Coding for Spatial Division Multiplexing Systems

Latin America Optics and Photonics Conference, 2018
We present modulation formats designed for the SDM channels with hard-decision FEC. We also review how soft-decision FEC with codeword interleaving over spatial modes enabled record bitrate-distance products in few mode fiber transmission.

Multi-Antenna Downlink Spatial Division Multiplexing with Opportunistic Feedback

GLOBECOM 2009 - 2009 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2009
In this paper, a new opportunistic feedback and user selection protocol is proposed for the multiple antenna downlink. The proposed scheme uses the structure of zero-forcing dirty paper coding (DPC) at the transmitter and selects users using a contention-based feedback channel.
