Spatial Coherence Manipulation on the Disorder-Engineered Statistical Photonic Platform

Nano Letters, 2022
Coherence, similar to amplitude, polarization, and phase, is a fundamental characteristic of the light fields and is dominated by the statistical optical property. Although spatial coherence is one of the pivotal optical dimensions, it has not been significantly manipulated on the photonic platform.

Compact generation of robust Airy beam pattern with spatial coherence engineering

Optics Letters, 2022
We present a class of partially coherent light sources having Airy-type amplitude and Airy-correlated spatial coherence. We show that the light beam generated by such sources can preserve the Airy beam pattern well during its propagation from source to far field.

Engineering Spatial Coherence of Lasers for Speckle-Free Imaging

Frontiers in Optics 2014, 2014
We showed that random lasers can be engineered to provide low spatial coherence. By exploiting the low spatial coherence of specifically-designed random lasers, we demonstrated speckle-free full-field imaging in the setting of intense optical scattering.

Optical image reconstruction in 4f imaging system: Role of spatial coherence structure engineering

Applied Physics Letters, 2021
We examine the effect of spatial coherence on the image quality of a classic 4f imaging system when its Fourier plane is partially blocked by an opaque obstacle. We find that although reducing the degree of spatial coherence of the source results in the improved image quality, the concurrent distortions in the image plane are inevitable.

Atomic spatial coherence monitoring and engineering with magnetic fields

Conference Digest. 2000 International Quantum Electronics Conference (Cat. No.00TH8504), 2000
Spatial coherences are measured by means of a new atom interferometry technique. First, a coherent superposition of the Zeeman components of the atom is built by means of well-controlled magnetic interactions. Second, pulsed inhomogeneous magnetic fields are employed to coherently separate and reunite the atomic substates via the Stern-Gerlach induced ...

A directionally-dependent evolutionary lagged coherency model of nonstationary horizontal spatially variable seismic ground motions for engineering purposes

Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2019
Abstract A novel directionally-dependent evolutionary lagged coherency model for nonstationary horizontal spatially variable seismic ground motions is developed for engineering purposes. Evolution of the model is achieved by varying the values of the parameters in time.

Second-harmonic generation driven by beams with engineered two-dimensional spatial coherence

Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics & Materials
In this paper, we theoretically investigate second-harmonic generation driven by random structured pump beams with engineered two-dimensional spatial coherence distributions. Taking a multi-Gaussian correlated Schell-model beam as a representative example, we derive the analytical cross-spectral density of the generated second-harmonic field and ...

Breaking the mid-spatial-frequency noise floor to sub-nanometer in Fizeau interferometry via anisotropic spatial-coherence engineering

Optics Letters
Anisotropic spatial-coherence engineering via illumination modulation is demonstrated to selectively suppress the mid-spatial-frequency (MSF) noise in interferometry. Using a 3D spatial-coherence model, we prove the superiority of a synthetic ring source with anisotropic spatial-coherence function in Fizeau systems and reveal characteristic residual ...
