Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Differential Spatial Modulation

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2014
Spatial modulation (SM) is a newly emerging multiple-input–multiple-output technique that activates only a single antenna for transmission at any time instant and uses the index of the active antenna as an additional information-carrying mechanism. However, by its nature, SM decoding is coherent in that channel state information (CSI) is required at ...

Differential spatial multiplexing

2004 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8733), 2004
In this paper, we present a novel differential space-time (DST) architecture which is well suited for high data-rate applications but requires only a linear decoding complexity. Multiple transmit antennas are divided into groups and DST encoding is applied individually to each group.

Differential Quadrature Spatial Modulation

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2017
Quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) is a recent multiple input multiple output transmission scheme that attracted significant research interest. QSM expands the spatial constellation diagram of spatial modulation (SM) to enhance the overall spectral efficiency while retaining all SM inherent advantages.

A differential scheme for Spatial Modulation

2013 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2013
In this paper, by considering the case of two transmit antennas, we propose a novel approach for introducing differential signaling into Spatial Modulation (SM)/Space-Shift Keying (SSK) and thus develop a differential SM/SSK (DSM/DSSK) scheme, where neither the transmitter nor the receiver has access to channel state information.

Differential effects of aging on spatial abilities

Experimental Brain Research, 2022
Visuospatial functions are particularly vulnerable to the aging process. Decline of these processes can seriously affect an individual's functional independence and quality of life. Effectively assessing the spatial abilities of older adults is, therefore, crucial for identifying strategies to maintain cognitive functioning.

Spatial filters for differentiation

Optics Communications, 1973
Abstract A grating is copied in monochromatic coherent light. The copy plate is not quite in contact with the grating. Therefore, the fringe contrast on the copy plate will vary across the field. This copy plate can serve as spatial filter for performing first order or higher order differentiations, if the geometry of the copy process was chosen ...

Differentiation by Spatial Filtering

Optica Acta: International Journal of Optics, 1977
A simple procedure for generating filters to perform first- and second-order differentiation has been presented. The procedure is based on the dependence of the diffraction efficiency on the grating constant of a binary grating. The influence of the finite or zero transmittance of the central region of the filter and also of the finite size of the ...
