South American Mesoscale Convective Systems: Present and Future Climates

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract This study investigates the mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) over South America in a future climate using two distinct modeling approaches: the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) regional model with dynamical downscaling and pseudoglobal warming, and the Nonhydrostatic Icosahedral Atmospheric Model (NICAM) global cloud‐resolving model ...

NuSAP Safeguards Centriole Integrity to Mediate CEP57‐CEP152 Torus Recruitment for Proper Engagement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
This study reveals a novel role for the microtubule stabilizer NuSAP at centrioles. NuSAP depletion destabilizes the centriole's tubulin structure, causing premature disengagement, PCM defects, and mis‐localization of the CEP57‐CEP63‐CEP152 complex. By reinforcing centriole architecture, NuSAP enables early CEP57 loading and initiates a newly proposed ...

Enhancing Air Quality Simulations With Neural Downscaling Architectures

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2026.
We present a machine learning‐based framework for downscaling air pollutant concentrations from 6 km to 1 km resolution over Europe. The model accurately reconstructs fine‐scale PM2.5 and NO2 patterns across scenarios using a single, generalizable architecture.

Male Agonistic Behavior on Atlantic Cod Spawning Grounds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
The mating system of the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) has been described as a lek, a mating system where male–male aggressions are expected. However, observing aggressions directly in marine environments is challenging. Using accelerometer tags we show that male–male agonistic interactions, inferred from activity levels, are indeed present on natural ...

Rapid Surveys Reveal Temporal Variation in Flowering Community Phenology in a Great Basin Desert Ecosystem

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Across four years of surveys in an arid Great Basin ecosystem, community flowering phenology showed strong seasonal, interannual, and trait‐based variation, with most differences occurring in spring and little variation in fall. Flowering patterns broadly corresponded with interannual climate variability, consistent with the importance of moisture ...

EcoViz: a tool for visual analysis and photorealistic rendering of forest landscape model simulations

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 4, April 2026.
Simulation outputs from forest landscape models are complex, and tools for their visual analysis and effective communication are often limited. In this paper, we present EcoViz, a novel, open‐source visualisation platform designed to complement existing forest models by providing advanced 3D visualisation capabilities.
