PostGIS-powered proximity queries: implementation and Google Maps visualization [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ Computer Science
Location-based services require efficient methods to calculate nearby points of interest. This article presents an implementation methodology for proximity queries using PostgreSQL’s PostGIS extension, focusing on the ST_DWithin function and spatial ...

SPAG: Index of spatial agglomeration

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, 2019
The paper develops a spatial agglomeration index (SPAG) of the economic activity for the point geo‐localizations of firms. It includes the effects of location, the distance between firms and the overlapping impact of the firms' size. The SPAG builds a new class of measures of the spatial density of the economic activity inside the region, based on the ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

A spatial-indexing model for measuring neighbourhood-level land-use and transport integration

open access: yes, 2014
Significant attention has been given in urban policy literature to the integration of land-use and transport planning and policies—with a view to curbing sprawling urban form and diminishing externalities associated with car-dependent travel patterns. By

Spatial Color Indexing Using Rotation, Translation, and Scale Invariant Anglograms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
As color plays an essential role in image composition, many color indexing techniques have been studied for content-based image retrieval. This paper examines the use of a computational geometry-based spatial color indexing methodology for effective and ...

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

VRPF: A Fine-Grained 3D Radar Power-Density Computation Framework Based on Photogrammetric City Models for Urban Observation

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Radar is critical for urban security against Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), yet signal occlusion caused by dense buildings and complex urban structures remains a major challenge for coverage assessment. Existing approaches commonly rely on 2D maps or 2.

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

Optimizing Spatial Databases [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper describes the best way to improve the optimization of spatial databases: through spatial indexes. The most commune and utilized spatial indexes are R-tree and Quadtree and they are presented, analyzed and compared in this paper. Also there are
