Spatial representations of knowledge

Proceedings of the 4th annual international ACM SIGIR conference on Information storage and retrieval theoretical issues in information retrieval - SIGIR '81, 1981
This research examined the relationship between subjects' knowledge of an area and their similarity ratings of pairs of concepts. Knowledge was operationalized as (1) test score performance, and (2) correspondence with an expert's similarity judgments.

Spatial perception and knowledge

Cognitive Processing, 2008
The enthusiasm elicited by the Third International Conference on Spatial Cognition, which was held in Rome in September 2006 (see the ‘‘Laboratory Note’’ in this issue), convinced the Editorial Board of Cognitive Processing to publish an extended and revised version of the most valuable papers presented at the Conference.

Spatial knowledge interchange environment

Proceedings of the 1st ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Crowdsourced and Volunteered Geographic Information, 2012
Agricultural output has been declining in the Caribbean although several strategies are being implemented to enhance development. The dichotomy between modern external experts (MEE) and locally grounded experts (LGE) generates a fracture that limits agricultural development and hinders good governance.

Spatial knowledge and cyberworlds

First International Symposium on Cyber Worlds, 2002. Proceedings., 2003
"Spatialization" refers to the creation of a graphic representation based on a spatial metaphor and the transformation that condenses large complex semantic domains into their essential components. Spatialization can be defined as the projection of elements of a high-dimensional information space into a low-dimensional, potentially experiential ...

QUANTIFYING KNOWLEDGE SPILLOVERS USING SPATIAL ECONOMETRIC MODELS

Journal of Regional Science, 2010
This paper seeks to develop our understanding of the somewhat diffuse nature of technological externalities and space by associating a geographical dimension with the sectoral dimension. Using a panel data set containing French patents as well as private and public research expenditures by industry and region over the period from 1992 to 2000, this ...

Formalising bio-spatial knowledge

Proceedings of the international conference on Formal Ontology in Information Systems - Volume 2001, 2001
There is now a growing literature on qualitative spatial representations covering many aspects of spatial representation including mereology, topology, orientation and distance. In this paper I will briefly outline some of these approaches to qualitative spatial representation and then apply these theories to the task of formalising a non-trivial ...

Spatial perspectives on knowledge brokers: Evidence from Brussels

Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, 2017
Knowledge brokers have emerged as a new type of actors shaping scientific production, influencing science–policy relationships, and thereby contributing to regional competitiveness. Yet, the spatial dimension of these knowledge brokers has received little attention.

Triangular spatial relationship: a new approach for spatial knowledge representation

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2001
Summary: An important aspect of problems in Symbolic Image Database Retrieval (SIDR) is addressed. The problems in conventional pairwise spatial relationships, particularly the 9DLT-matrix-based approach, used to represent a symbolic image in SID are discussed.

Robotics and spatial knowledge

2023
