The Authenticity of Spatial Planning Knowledge
European Planning Studies, 2012This article intends to start a debate on the authentic disciplinary grounds of spatial planning studies as a scientific discipline of spatial intervention closely interrelated with practices of spatial development. In a volatile epoch of regrouping academic specializations, scientists feel a strong incentive to reflect on the authentic grounds of ...

Maintaining qualitative spatial knowledge
1993We present mechanisms used to maintain the consistency of a knowledge base of spatial information based on a qualitative representation of 2-D positions. These include the propagation heuristics used when inserting new relations as well as the reason maintenance mechanisms necessary to undo the effects of propagation when deleting a relation. Both take

Hierarchic representation for spatial knowledge
1994One of the fundamental issues in building autonomous agents is to be able to sense, represent and react to the world. Some of the earlier work [Mor83, Elf90, AyF89] has aimed towards a reconstructionist approach, where a number of sensors are used to obtain input that is used to construct a model of the world that mirrors the real world.

Primitives of Spatial Knowledge
1995A minimal set of primitives for building sets of spatial concepts is presented. These are needed for understanding the many GIS being circulated today. Using primitives of identity, location, magnitude, and time, simple and more complex spatial concepts can be derived. These ultimately become embedded in spatial language.

Spatial knowledge in linguistic knowledge. A semantic analysis of Italian spatial prepositions
