Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Quantifying the spatial heterogeneity of geographical flows

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
Geographical flows describe the movements and connections of materials, energy, and information among locations and are commonly represented by origin-destination (OD) flows (flows for short).

A new information theoretical measure of global and local spatial association [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper a new measure of spatial association, the S statistics, is developed. The proposed measure is based on information theory by defining a spatially weighted information measure (entropy measure) that takes the spatial configuration into ...

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

A Spatial Analysis of the Relationship between Vegetation and Poverty

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2018
The goal of this paper was to investigate poverty and inequities that are associated with vegetation. First, we performed a pixel-level linear regression on time-series and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for 72 United States (U.S.) cities ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

DOES GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION MATTER? ASSESSING SPATIAL PATTERNS IN PERCEIVED QUALITY OF LIFE IN EUROPEAN CITIES

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Geography, 2023
The Quality of Urban Life is one of the most important issues of the present policies, being highly researched. The spatial dimension of this concept is still a major challenge for both researchers and policy makers as it was not enough explored and ...

NEW MEAN VALUES FOR HOMOGENEOUS SPATIAL TESSELLATIONS THAT ARE STABLE UNDER ITERATION

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2010
Homogeneous random tessellations in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space are considered that are stable under iteration – STIT tessellations. A classification of vertices, segments and flats is introduced and a couple of new metric and topological mean ...

Statistics of Wave Functions in Disordered Systems with Applications to Coulomb Blockade Peak Spacing

open access: yes, 2005
Despite considerable work on the energy-level and wavefunction statistics of disordered quantum systems, numerical studies of those statistics relevant for electron-electron interactions in mesoscopic systems have been lacking.
