Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Risk Prediction of Three Different Subtypes of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreaks in Poultry Farms: Based on Spatial Characteristics of Infected Premises in South Korea

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
From 2003 to 2017, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) epidemics, particularly H5N1, H5N8, and H5N6 infections in poultry farms, increased in South Korea.

Seasonality and spatial variability of dynamic precipitation controls on the Tibetan Plateau [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics, 2016
Abstract. The Tibetan Plateau (TP) is the origin of many large Asian rivers, which provide moisture for large regions in South and East Asia. Therefore, the water cycle on the TP and adjacent high mountain ranges and especially the precipitation distribution plays an important role for the water availability for billions of people in the regions ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Spatial variability and directional shifts in postural control in Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesClinical Parkinsonism & Related Disorders
Individuals with Parkinson's disease exhibit tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia, disrupting normal movement variability and resulting in postural instability. This comprehensive study aimed to investigate the link between the temporal structure of postural sway variability and Parkinsonism by analyzing multiple datasets from young and older adults ...

Vegetation and Topographic Control on Spatial Variability of Soil Organic Carbon

open access: yesPedosphere, 2013
Abstract Soil organic carbon (SOC) is one of the most important parameters affecting the hydraulic characteristics of natural soils. Despite being rather easy to measure, SOC is known to be highly variable in space. In this study, vegetation, climate, and morphology factors were used to reproduce the spatial distribution of SOC in the mineral ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Spatial scale effects in environmental risk-factor modelling for diseases

open access: yesGeospatial Health, 2013
Studies attempting to identify environmental risk factors for diseases can be seen to extract candidate variables from remotely sensed datasets, using a single buffer-zone surrounding locations from where disease status are recorded. A retrospective case-
