Special economic zones and local economic activities in Ethiopia

open access: yesReview of World Economics
Abstract Do Special Economic Zones (SEZs) boost local economic activity in Ethiopia? Although SEZs have been an integral part of Ethiopia’s industrial growth over the past 15 years, their local impacts remain understudied. This paper uses satellite-based nighttime light data and a difference-in-differences approach to assess the effects of ...

Tailoring Symmetry Breaking in Engineered van der Waals Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We pioneer a scheme to tailor superpotentials in graphene based on intrinsic substrate electronic orders rather than twist angle. The resulting superpotential folds graphene's Dirac cones to either Γ$\Gamma$ or K‐points, leading to distinct symmetry behaviors.

3D‐Printed Corneal Substitutes: Materials, Fabrication, and Preclinical Progress

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Successful clinical translation of 3D‐printed corneal substitutes relies on the interplay between the bioink properties, cellular component, and the fabrication process. These factors influence the critical properties of the construct, including optical transparency, mechanical stability, suture retention, that ultimately govern long‐term stromal ...

A Perspective on the Applications of Triphasic Gas Storage in Electrochemical Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gas storage in microporous materials positioned locally at an electrode or electrocatalyst surface enhances electrochemical processes. Abstract Microporous materials store gases under dry conditions (e.g., hydrogen or oxygen via physisorption), but in some cases microporous materials also show triphasic (e.g., in a solid|gas|liquid system) gas storage ...
