Shaping beta diversity in arid landscape through native plant species contributions: synergy of climate, soil, and species traits

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Understanding how species traits, climate aridity, and soil resources interact to influence beta diversity is critical for predicting changes in plant community composition.

Effect of intercropping of corn and sainfoin on control of the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), and on yield of both crops [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران, 2019
The European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis Hübner, is one of the most important pests of corn. In this study, the influences of corn monoculture (C), sainfoin monoculture (S) and strip-intercropping of corn with sainfoin in the four row ratios: 2C:2S ...

Bird Population Changes Following the Establishment of a Diverse Stand of Woody Plants in a Former Crop Field in North Dakota, 1975– 2015 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Changes in the coverage of trees and shrubs on the North Dakota landscape since Euro- American settlement have likely had a pronounced impact on bird species that favor woody vegetation.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Local ciliate communities associated with aquatic macrophytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study, based within the catchment area of the River Frome, an important chalk stream in the south of England, compared ciliated protozoan communities associated with three species of aquatic macrophyte common to lotic habitats: Ranunculus ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Landscape population genetics and the role of organic farming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This project aims at understanding the effect of different farming systems on the genetic diversity of common agricultural species. It is well known that organic farming generally improves the biodiversity and abundance of species in the agricultural ...

Modeling large scale species abundance with latent spatial processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Modeling species abundance patterns using local environmental features is an important, current problem in ecology. The Cape Floristic Region (CFR) in South Africa is a global hot spot of diversity and endemism, and provides a rich class of species ...
