Activity Level-Predation Risk Tradeoff in a Tadpole Guild: Implications for Community Organization Along the Hydroperiod Gradient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Increasing activity levels permit greater food intake for use towards growth and reproduction, consequently increasing predation risk via increased detection.

Early-stage star forming cloud cores in GLIMPSE Extended Green Objects (EGOs) as traced by organic species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In order to investigate the physical and chemical properties of massive star forming cores in early stages, we analyse the excitation and abundance of four organic species, CH3OH, CH3OCH3, HCOOCH3 and CH3CH2CN, toward 29 Extended Green Object (EGO) cloud

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Amplicon Sequencing Reveals Rhizosphere Fungal Dysbiosis Facilitates Goji Berry Root Rot Onset

open access: yesPlants
Root rot in Lycium barbarum, an economically vital crop, is a critical barrier to its sustainable development in China. To elucidate the underlying micro-ecological mechanisms, this study aimed to characterize and compare the rhizosphere microbial ...

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

A dataset of macrobenthos in important lakes and reservoirs in the Yellow River Basin

open access: yes中国科学数据
Macrobenthos play a key role in regulating material cycle and energy flow of water ecosystems, which also serve as key taxa in the evaluation of the ecological health of lakes and reservoirs.

Estimating the abundance of clustered and cryptic marine macro-invertebrates in the Galápagos with particular reference to sea cucumbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Estimating the abundance of marine macro-invertebrates is complicated by a variety of factors: 1) human factors, such as diver efficiency and diver error; and 2) biological factors, such as aggregation of organisms, crypsis, and nocturnal emergence ...

Quantitative analysis of ruminal methanogenic microbial populations in beef cattle divergent in phenotypic residual feed intake (RFI) offered contrasting diets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
peer-reviewedBackground Methane (CH4) emissions in cattle are an undesirable end product of rumen methanogenic fermentative activity as they are associated not only with negative environmental impacts but also with reduced host feed ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Territorial Acoustic Species Estimation using Acoustic Sensor Networks

open access: yesEcological Informatics
Accurate biodiversity assessment is fundamental for effective conservation management and environmental policy-making. However, monitoring local species populations is time-consuming, as experts can cover only one limited area at a time and are also ...
