Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A cryptic elapid snake persists in the wake of catastrophic wildfires

open access: yesOryx
The increased severity and frequency of bushfires accompanying human-induced global warming have dire implications for biodiversity conservation. Here we investigate the response of a cryptic, cool-climate elapid, the mustard-bellied snake Drysdalia ...

DISTRIBUTION OF SPHINGOLIPIDS IN BACTEROIDES SPECIES

open access: yesThe Journal of General and Applied Microbiology, 1978
Infrared spectrometric analysis and thin-layer chromatography were employed to detect sphingolipids in the genus Bacteroides species. Sphingolipids were found in the bacteria belonging to B. fragilis, B. melaninogenicus, B. oralis, and B. ruminicola, but not in B. succinogenes, B. furcosus, B. hypermegas, B. amylophilus, and B. multiacidus.

From species distributions to meta‐communities [PDF]

open access: yesEcology Letters, 2015
AbstractThe extent that biotic interactions and dispersal influence species ranges and diversity patterns across scales remains an open question. Answering this question requires framing an analysis on the frontier between species distribution modelling (SDM), which ignores biotic interactions and dispersal limitation, and community ecology, which ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Species Distribution Finder: The AI-driven web tool to discover where species live around the world [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Ecology and Software
Understanding the global distribution of species is crucial for their conservation, utilization, and management of the species. In present study, the AI-driven web tool, Species Distribution Finder, was developed.

New Genetically Confirmed Record of Myotis alcathoe (Chiroptera, Mammalia) from Ukraine

open access: yesZoodiversity
Myotis alcathoe is one of the iconic species among cryptic European bats, described only 20 years ago. Despite research efforts, there is still limited knowledge about its distribution and ecology, leading to its Data Deficient status on the IUCN Red ...

Increasing Incidence and Shifting Epidemiology of Candidemia in Greece: Results from the First Nationwide 10-Year Survey

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
Globally, candidemia displays geographical variety in terms of epidemiology and incidence. In that respect, a nationwide Greek study was conducted, reporting the epidemiology of Candida bloodstream infections and susceptibility of isolates to antifungal ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Caught in transition: changes in brachyuran diversity following mangrove encroachment into saltmarshes at a southern distribution limit

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Mangroves are expanding polewards due to global change, often encroaching into adjacent temperate saltmarshes. In both vegetated ecosystems, brachyurans are responsible for ecological processes and functions such as nutrient cycling and sediment ...
